Can you do this WITHOUT draining the oil????

Yes, absolutely.  I did it on MC jack so the bike was vertical and easier to get to the shifter.

Good luck, should take about 15 minutes and that includes the time to get her up on the lift..  Smiley

   I think you will find that your bike is tighter than you think.
 You will loose little if any oil.

Yes. If you have it vertical it won't lose a drop.

Place a 4x4x12'' block of wood atop a 6x6x12 place then under the right side crash bar.pull the bike over the top and rest it on the wood.now the shifter is out in the open and the will stay back in the engine.
