I've had the Valk for just over 2 weeks now. It has a really nice "growl" to it when sitting and idling as well as sounding really awesome when I twist the throttle. My real problem is that the LOML and I both have to wear earplugs just to ride to town and back because it is so loud. The previous owner gave me the stock pipes with the bike and I seem to recall that he said that someone put glass-packs in the pipes that are on the bike now. It sound awesome.....but can I make it just a tad-bit more quiet???

Look in the extra pipes and make sure the piggies are still there and the base where
the piggies come from is undrilled. If so, get six new exhaust gaskets, remove your
loud exhaust pipes, run over them with your truck  Cool , and install the stock pipes.
There will still be a nice growl when you nail it, and it will be pleasantly quiet otherwise...

yep, like Watt said, a picture would be nice. It may just be a matter of 'stretching' the pipes/stacks or turning them down or out. But, the system is not hard to replace and the stock pipes can be made louder without much effort.

Here is a pic of the bike.

And here are the stock pipes given to me when I picked up the bike:

Once you go stock and can converse with the passenger...while cruising ...and hear cars coming up on you. You will wonder why some prefer noise.

It is dark inside your mufflers... I can't see your piggies... they're the three pipe-ends you
see here:

The pipes that are on the bike now....appear to be hollow for as far as I can see without a flashlight.

I wear earplugs anyway when I ride. I'm a musician as well as a woodworker when I'm not at the day job. I understand that the #1 cause of hearing loss for a bikers is the wind noise and hearing loss is a collective loss. These pipes are so loud that the only thing I can compare them to is when I bought my VTX1300, it had straight stock pipes that were totally gutted to make it sound cool and LOUD.!!! I rode the X from the sellers house to mine, about 12 miles, and I thought I was going to throw up from nausea caused by the extreme loud noise. I never heard the motor of the X until I finally put modified stock pipes on it to get a nice rumble sound without all the loud noise.

I will look closer when I get in from work today.

OK, I checked the current pipes on the bike. There is nothing in the area where the "muffler" and baffles would be. Could it be that they are just straight pipes without the "piggies" in there? Of course I had to read around and learn about the "piggies".  Wink

You may just want to cut the chase and put the stock pipes on... Order a set of exhaust gaskets, and use the old ones until you get them... Unless the old ones were reused and over torqued when changing last time, they will probably seal up pretty well.

yup sounds like someone cut those up,  you can purchase truck stacks and Mark T I believe sells incerts. But if cannot right now do to money or time, just buy six exhaust gaskets and put other exhaust on  then you can do what you want when you can to other exhaust

Just went to the shop and checked the other set of pipes that were given to me. Those pipes have the piggies in there and appear to be fully stock pipes.

If you want a Goldwing type of quiet, put the stock pipes on.

If however, you want quiet with a little bit of growel to it, there are things you can do.

But first, I need to know what it is exactly you have on the bike now.

From the pic, they look to have the oem tips on there.

Can you take one of them off and take a pic of the end of the can...or whatever is in there?

That will tell us what you have and what can be done about.

I just removed my Cobra 6/6 pipes and installed an almost new set of stock pipes. Would not even consider going back to the Cobras. If I open her up a little she gives me more than enough sound. And it is not Goldwing quiet. I also have a Wing and it sounds nothing like the Valk. Even cruising, I have the quiet but also the power sound.

BF,
I will do that. I'll do that tomorrow night after work.
I don't want GW quiet....that's too quiet IMHO. I do want some growl to it but without the extreme loud.  Shocked

Like Denny47 said... stock pipes aren't Goldwing quiet... I think OEM pipes growl just fine
when you nail the throttle...

You have a Tourer, it is tuned a little different than an Interstate, sounds throatier, you will probably like that.

Can't see if you have 4" stacks.  If you do, you can quiet them down with baffles.  Here is a link:

Sorry BF....I had to work late last night and didn't get a chance to remove the tail piece and take a pic or two. I'll be sure to do that tonight or tomorrow night and post the picks.

Take a look at the system I've developed over the last 14 years.  Particularly my Silencers.  Here's a link directly to that section:  http://www.horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Valk_Products/M2W_Exhaust__System/m2w_exhaust__system.html#SilencersTxT

Go ahead and get comfortable and read the rest of the page too.  Yeah I know it's wordy, and formatted for a monitor, not a phone.  TMI I suppose but better than not enough.
