Anyone have any suggestions on how to best remove the center cover ? Seems like a foolish question, as I want to break the cover after struggling with it; however, the bike is dismantled for painting and I don't like being defeated....I've thought of removing the battery box and coolant tank, but am very concerned about the bank angle censor and that %&#*@$# cable for the seat release. The service manual isn't much help either....any thoughts...even the "colorful" replies should be entertaining. Cheesy

It's been a long time but I think if you remove the alternator cover it's a little easier.  Just have to keep fiddling with it and don't worry about the bank angle sensor.

Don't put the tip-over switch back on upside down like I did. There's an arrow showing the
right way to put it on. If you think taking the center cover off stinks, it really stinks taking
it off a second time to put the tip-over switch back on right... my alternator cover is off in this
pic...  I remember putting painter's tape over the cover to keep from scratching it up
as I struggled to get it out...



Consider buying a Valkyrie that is already the color you want  Roll Eyes ...

I took it off to check the bearings, they seemed good to me. Swingarm comes off and goes
back on real easy with the Honda tools...

Thanks for the input....leaning towards painting the sucker flat black in place, seems like adding 2 pounds of tape and pulling it off will be easier that getting the thing out then re-installed correctly.

I took mine out the left (alternator) side. I bent, tugged, cursed and used a 3/8ths ratchet extension to push cables out of the way and to force the cover around things. Same going back in. I was surprised (happily) how much it bends without breaking. Have fun.
