If you leak is coming from the rubber gasket that is on the cap, I have found a very cheap and easy way to fix it.  I've had this fix in place for about 10,000 miles and it totally eliminated my gas smell problems.

Here's a link: http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,57951.0.html

I can't seem to make an active link, so just cut and paste it.
