Have the Cool White x5 LEDs in hand ready to make this changeover.

Love to tinker...but if it can be broken I will break it.  Just being honest here!  laugh

Can someone direct me to a prior thread with a step-by-step, or even better a video, on how to access the OEMs in both the speedo and tach and make this change?

If not, simple directions would be much appreciated.  This might be in the service manual, but naturally I left mine at a wrench party the other day.

Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming...

Don't loose the screw that holds the reset knob on the speedo.   Roll Eyes

Sorry I haven't replied earlier.  I haven't actually replaced any meter bulbs yet, so I thought I'd wait for experienced hands to give you step by step instructions before looking it up for you.  From the service manual:

Thanks, GR

Just what I needed.  Hopefully the tach cover comes off as easily.  We'll see...

Hello to your sweetie!
Use the screwdriver from your OEM tool kit.  If the screw doesn't loosen easily, a Phillips screwdriver might strip it, like the brake and clutch reservoir cover screws.

Didn't expect to have to take the seat off to change the speedo/tach bulbs!   laugh

I replaced both my speedo n tach w/ the cool blue... the covers came off of them very easy..just follow the instruction. disconnect the battery first! i suspect that's what you mean by the taking the seat off comment cooldude

Actually, I was just picking with my buddy GR about having to remove the seat to access the screwdriver in the toolkit.  That screwdriver was actually too large to remove the tiny odometer reset knob screw, and that screw was in rather snug.  Just took my time using a smaller Phillips and that was the trick.

The OEM replacement with the Cool White x5 LEDs was quick and easy, but they were not as bright as I expected or hoped.  Brighter than the OEMs certainly, but I had hoped for a bit more...

Thanks to all that offered advice.

The superbright LED's I used had to be file a little to get them to fit into the bulb well. Then I had to use a bread bag wire tie to make sure the plug end stayed put. It's been a few years since I made this bulb change and really can't remember all the steps I took to make they fit right. All I know is that they have stayed put with no issues at all. I really like them.

Yes, they were snug but after a few moments of concern I managed to turn them so they'd fit in the well.  Didn't have to use the bag tie strategy, and so far vibration hasn't shaken either of them loose.

Just expected more brightness.  Don't ride that much at night even on our long trips, but I want to see the gauges when we do.  That being said, they are quite a bit brighter than the OEMs.  The tach OEM was burned out so replacements were called for anyway.  These will be more than fine for my purposes.
