Austone tires are made in France and also China. The French made is at a higher price of approx $220/ tire, where as the China one is at approx $154.

Question is other than pricing, and for those that have used them is there any noticeable difference in :

 (1) quality
 (2) tire life

Thanks for any input

Ok, my mistake I should of asked if there is much difference (except price) in the "Austone taxi tire" and the" Dunlop taxi tire".

I wish that there were some specifications given for these tires besides maximum load. I would like to, at least, see UTQG standard tread-wear, temperature, traction and speed ratings.

It's interesting that Universal Vintage Tire Company sells both the Austone and Dunlop Taxi Tire but don't publish any specs so there's nothing to compare.

Another vendor, Vintage Tyres, states that the maximum speed for the Dunlop brand taxi tire is 87 mph.

So it's not even H rated. I haven't read or heard anything bad about these tires but, personally, I'm not going to put my butt on the line without more information.

Any Austone/Dunlop taxi tire owners here care to examine their tire's fine print and let us know what specs are printed on the sidewall?

u can see the tire label here load C.  UTQG is a US only std I believe and the others are required by US consumer laws/etc.

The load rating of C is fine. UTQG is required by the DOT for all passenger car tires with a few exceptions such as winter/snow tires, temporary tires, trailer tires, and tires under 12". The sidewall pictures on ebay don't show anything much as they're too blurry and low resolution.

I at least want a speed rating!

if u went to the austone site I provided u will see it has a Q speed rating.
this has been posted many times on this board and the web.

not required for all tires, notice keys words "most" "other select"
"The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Uniform Tire Quality Grade Standards (UTQG) were originated to provide consumers with useful information to help them purchase tires based on their relative treadwear, traction and temperature capabilities. While it is required by law for most passenger car tires sold in the United States, it is not required for deep treaded light truck tires, winter/snow tires, temporary spare tires, trailer tires, tires under 12” in diameter and other select tires."

and if u had the UTOG sticker what comparable other taxi tire would u compare it to?
there are many threads out there that tell in detail those facts for actual road miles traveled. much better than a tire tested on a machine for the UTOG sticker IMHO.

Okay, I see the Q speed rating. That is 99 mph. The only speed rating I've see for the Dunlop tire is 87 mph which is an N speed rating. Neither are H rated as the original Valkyrie tires. Not that car tires are mentioned in the owners manual but a speed rating is a speed rating. The OP was looking for a difference between the Austone and Dunlop and this appears to be one.

. . . not required for all tires, notice keys words "most" "other select" . . .
Yeah, I see the word "most" but I'd still rather have this information.

and if u had the UTOG sticker what comparable other taxi tire would u compare it to?
These ratings are not "relative" to other tires but rather they are "absolute" ratings based upon fixed standards. They're not inclusive of all operating conditions but they're a starting point of comparison between all tires regardless of application.

. . . and if u had the UTOG sticker what comparable other taxi tire would u compare it to?
there are many threads out there that tell in detail those facts for actual road miles traveled. much better than a tire tested on a machine for the UTOG sticker IMHO.
The OP asked about the difference of quality and tire life between the two brands of taxi tire. All I'm saying is that if the UTQG values were imprinted on the tire or published/printed somewhere it would help differentiate the two brands and perhaps explain the sizable cost difference between the brands that are being sold from the same vendor here in the States.

Only place in North America, is Universal Vintage Tires from the US.

I just bought one, and having it shipped to the border, where I cross over, PU and bring across myself. Saves the $ for direct shipping. They just had a free shipping sale.
