Highest wattage headlight bulb fo a standard?
«

I had the shop I took my bike into replace my headlight bulb a week ago. I had them put in another 60/55 watt bulb. This bulb has more of a blue tint to it. It looks nice on the bike, but it is not very bright on the very dark sections of my middle of the night commute home. I know I need an H4 bulb, but what wattage can I go up to without hurting either the wiring or the headlights plastic lens?

My suggestion to you would be to add some DRIVING lights.
Seperate switch on them and a GOOD RELAY.
I have a Cobra lightbar on MGM with these bulbs in them.
The spotlights are GE H7616 they only use 36.5 watts and put out 70000 CP. Lights up the road very well.
I don't remember who turned me onto these bulbs.
I picked them up at NAPA about 10 years ago.
They are on whenever the ignition key is on.
Wired them in so when I hit the starter, they go out like the main headlight does.
Also added a very good relay to the system.
The Cobra switch controls the off/on when ever I want them off.
I have them set just a tad high, so as to light up the road a little better.
I know they will let ya spot the forest rats along side the highway getting ready to cross.

I have 100/90 watt that I got at Napa. No problems in 4 years.
They make a lot of difference for a little bit of money. I haven't put a relay on them but it's probably a good idea to.

Am thinking the new LED is the way to go. Do a search and take a look at them. Have now seen two on Valks and they are impressive and don't pull anywhere near the current so easier on the electrical system and connections.

I didn't know I could go that high without getting the lens too hot. Good to know. Thanks

I've been running the NAPA 100/80 for 4-5 years now without problems. Lots more light without lots more money. They list it as an 'off-road' bulb.

Do you know if a relaunch need to be installed? Don't know much about power draw but will these compromise the battery reserve?

Have run a 130/90 H4 since 1998. No problems. I did power it with relays, and upgrade the bulb socket to a ceramic one. No heat issues with the lens or reflector.

This bulb is $15.99 at competition accessories at

If I didn't already have an old-school soln I'd look at the new LED H4's today.
