Has anyone installed the Tsukayu Jumbo Strong Ready to paint Hardbags? The ones that are not pre-drilled. How hard is it to line them up properly for drilling? Is there additional supports that should be added?

Additional supports are a personal decision,, here are some ideas, http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,76632.0.htmlHere are the installation instructions from Tsukayu,, if you think about it, you may come up with some better options for your own installation to get a more precise and repeatable placement. http://www.tsukayu.com/Installation_rev3.htm

I got the Jumbo Strong... gloss black..no holes.. pre drilled... pretty much followed the instructions...was good to go.. I did order and install the bottom brace after using them for awhile caus the bags tended to sink going over bumps...I'm also going to drill a pair of holes into the back of the bags through to the mounting brackets themselves caus their is still some flex at the top...make sure you install the bags low enough to have easy access to the fender bolt... p.s I also got the led turns integrated into the bags.. I like em. but they leak into the bag when it rains.. I've made Tsukayu aware of the problem.... I think it's caus the gasket is cut at the corner to fit...anyway..be aware of this... also I installed chrome handles from home depot cuas the lids are thin at the point where they latch and with the triple seals they can be a hassle to grab and open.. but the storage is awesome..the bags look awesome and I really like em!! How could you like a bag that leaks? Some silicone on the inside would take care of the leak.

yea... that's what I did, but when you pay good money for saddlebags, they should be perfect... btw, just to clarify.. the bags did not have holes pre drilled... the leak is no big deal..it just should not leak, but silicon did the trick! but bags are awesome in look and storage capacity.... I got the Jumbo strong with the vinyl covering. Trout dude (?) I think it is, gave me a lot of great pointers that made me feel more comfortable with doing the install myself with another pair of hands from a friend. In retrospect I kind of wish I had gotten the Quick attach kit. Just make sure you use enough spacers so that the one bag doesn't hit the rear caliper. All else was pretty strait forward.

I installed a set on a friends bike, I took mine off and made a paper template. Transferred the hole location, and they fit just like mine. Was a lot easier than when I installed mine. I cut a piece of 2" angle iron about 1 foot long and then welded 2 pieces at a 90% angle. Taped up the exhaust, installed the angle on top of the exhaust( angle iron will find it's own center) with hose clamps using a square to get the correct alinement with the bag brackets. The bags have a flat bottom so the will set right on top of the jig. All you have to do is shim the clearance for the height( I used a 3/4 piece of plywood) and slide them back and forth to get the correct position. You don't have to hold anything, and both bags will be the same height.
Or I could take my bags off and send you a template if you want. Phil

I made some additional supports and a tip over protector for mine out of SS tubing Valkrider62. It may look a bit hillbilly, but the supports make them more stable, and the protector has saved the paint on the bags more than once as the bike has been dropped two or three times since the bags have been on. I also put pieces of aluminum plate inside and out on the back for additional support since the backs of mine had been cracked from a previous accident. Yeah, they may have more holes in them than a swiss cheese, but they are stable and sealed, and the bike can be dropped without doing any damage. I am not running the rear support right now as it is not really needed.

I'm not BlackValkyrie, but I'll answer your question. This is what is available over the counter for additional support for your bags. http://www.tsukayu.com/UShapeBar.htmlAnd this is what is available for protection http://www.tsukayu.com/BagGuards.html

Pancho is right.. and I got both... the bottom connecter bracket is very important because my bags would press down going over bumps.. worth the $100.. high quality and looks good also.... my valk took the 35cm ones... BlackValkyrie, is there additional brackets and crash bars available to purchase?

I was hoping to revisit this topic. More on the longevity of the product. I was interested in these and everyone seemed to have great initial things to say.
Has anyone had enough time and usage to give an update and whether they can continue to recommend them?
Tips/tricks figured out for mounting/stabilization/etc?

People have been praising those bags on this board for 10 years or more...
Tips/tricks figured out for mounting/stabilization/etc?
I've ridden behind numerous Valkyries with "floppy saddle bags"... Nice solidly mounted bags, like the OEM ones on a Tourer/Interstate and the Corbin ones on my 1800 all have something like the u-shape bar thing that Pancho posted a link to...

I've had mine for mine for about 10 yrs now with no issues, the only 'problem' is that the glue on the gaskets finally died and I had to glue it back down. Recently had to re-position the bags as I added the IS Trunk, used a fiberglass repair kit to seal the old holes. The lids kinda catch on the bottom of the truck, been playing with the idea of re-positioning the latch and hinge, but that's another subject. Otherwise I just recheck all the bolts every couple of months to make sure everything is nice and tight...no stress fractures that I can see around any of the holes mounting holes.

I've got about 70k on my Jumbo Strongs. Would definitely buy them again.A little heavy but quite robust. Only issue I've had is some pressure cracking on a couple of the holes. I reinforced them and changed to larger washers to spread the load (I pack a LOT of stuff into them) After reading this thread, I think l'll get the U-bar to give them a bit more stability.

Yeah, I don't pack them heavy... and depending on how the Ubar attaches, there isn't much room between the bottom of the bag and the exhaust (at least for me)...
Looking through the webpage I see the bags now come with a quick disconnect system...don't see them listed as a separate purchase item though...and they have hinges and locks...hmmm...I see an xmas present on the horizon...

I've got pretty good at taking them off 2 or 3 times a year but a quick disconnect function would be GREAT. Good tip on the distance to the exhaust. My bike is winterized and jacked with the bags off so perhaps I'll wait until spring and check the gap.

I didn't see the quick release system listed for the Valks though. Only a Shadow or something if memory serves me right. And I thought it said that those were bike specific quick releases. Not the best website to navigate so maybe i missed it??

No idea if it is bike/bag specific... I agree the website isn't the best, but I shot them an email anyway. Not so much removal, but trying to get those stupid bolts to like back up....ugh...

Many thousands of miles later and mine are still good to go. The left lid has acquired a scar/tattoo from a woman backing into me. When I repainted the bag and lid I left that scar... thought it looked good. They have been good bags, I expect them to be on the bike for the duration.

I am a DIYer and always looking for the cheap way to what I want. What follows is a photo story of my jumbo strongs and my combination trailer hitch and bag mounting system. And And And And And And the metal tray the bag sits on and is bolted to is 1/8 aluminum that also serves as a heat shield for the bags. One bolt goes through that plate and into the bottom of the bag, 2 bolts through the back of the bag and that plate towards the rear of the bike and another bolt through the back of the bag and the steel bracket at the front of the grab rail. The bags are solid.
