As I got off work near midnight I was headed home thru town and as always riding the right lane thru town.
As a light turned red I and anothrr car that had been in left lane just behind me started slowing I much sooner than he, as we approached the redlight the driver in the car decided he wante to turn right at the light so here he/she goes cuts right across in front of me and over 2 lanes to turn right. Now I'm really thankful he didn't hit me but makes me wonder how could he not had know I was there as he drove by me as we both were slowing down at the light. When I say he cut across me I'm talking less than a foot seperated us that's just too close and really pissed me off.
Now I understand why my ex father inlaw carried a brick with him at all times on his goldwing!
Also makes me ask what constitutes self defense when idiots like this does such acts and also creates the not so good outcomes with a wreck and hurt biker?
Yea I'm glad I had that foot there and glad I was slowing down much sooner than he was at the light but sheesh that's as close as I can ever remember riding and wanting to get off my bike and kerk them out of the car and give them a good ole case of southern style road rash.
Ok off my soap box.
Be careful guys I know a lot of you have more miles on seat of your pants than I but as always we have to always be aware even when we thought it was safe.

glad you made it

Had a few close ones today also which is why I try to leave work after 6pm and let the breakneck morons get home first.

I leave a car length or 2 between me and the next car at 45mph and had a big expedition or navigator (was wearn my safety sunglasses not my regular glasses) cut across a few lanes to cut me off. I laid onto the air horn and he just cut right and gained that precious ONE car length on me.

More and more drivers around here call 911 when there is aggressive driving but the cops are useless unless you are speeding all alone.  Have seen a couple of new unmarked cars so hopefully there will soon be a crackdown.

We had a gal drive the wrong way on a highway nearby killed 8 people  she was drunk and stoned according to the medical examiner.  I have seen a fellow drive the wrong way on a divided 2 lane that has no shoulders.  That freaked me out, no place to go if you are comin down the road. Too late to write the Will at that point

THEY ARE OUT TO GET US  DRIVE DEFENSIVELY

I can't stand the drivers that are texting tickedoff I have followed those idiots and watched them weave in and out in lanes of traffic, tailgaiting, driving like idiots, and when I stop at light next to them I see that they are texting on the phone or blackberry or  whatever the hell it is that is in the morons hand.
I just want to slap them.  In my opionion just as dangerous as a drunk driver.

I LOVE to hear about near misses because I am thankful they were a MISS !  I believe there are 2 kinds of riders...those that have been "down" and those that WILL BE "down"  Sad .   I believed for MANY thousand miles that was a myth...(Total BS )if you will.
I believed that superior rider ability and acute perception or forethought and stunningly fast reflexes could disprove that myth. I reviewed many accidents and evaluated each, always concluding that "if the fool had done this,or not done that...".

But I AM (and was) WRONG!!!
EVERY motorcycle accident is the cyclist fault! You can NEVER ride too defensively,NEVER TOO SAFE, Just because you didnt see it coming will not comfort your loved ones in your loss. If the other driver is at fault...YOU STILL DEAD!....

I am sorry to be so blunt and dark, I was dead on the highway once myself and I only hope to educate and help.
LEARN from those near miss encounters and improve your riding skillz....they WONT drive any better because you almost died.
Cage drivers today believe because they have full coverage and airbags , they can drive however they want to. Valk riders dont have that option.

all you can do is ride safe...ALWAYS!  PLEASE ?
