If I am permanently deleting the trunk on my I/S and I buy the standard tail light with the 2 small sections of harness, will it plug directly into my existing main harness under the side cover?

Hello Dak,

It isn't a direct plug-in as the style of connector is different.  If you truly plan not to use the trunk again, I would cut off the IS connector and put bullet connectors in its place.  If you do plan on using the trunk again, simply splice in the appropriate bullet connectors.  I would tend to go with the second option because it allows that future capability should you ever want to.

You can get wiring schematics for both bikes here:  http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/schematics/

I just tapped into the bike side of that plug and IF I reinstall the trunk (it's on the shelf) I just plug the trunk lights and rear speakers in.  Oh, and put a rear seat on I guess.

I thought I researched this years ago, both the std/Tourer and the IS A wire harness has bullet connectors into the main wire harness.

So yes, you buy the A and B wire harness from the std/T and with the rear light setup, it all plugs in.

I'll delete the link later, but here is an ebay sale I found with the fender and wire intact for a T. You can easily see the bullet connectors.

Gordon,  The Standard/Tourer/IS have bullet connectors under the right side cover for the turn signals, but the brake on the IS is a plug connector.  It is the 3P mini connector shown on this schematic (click Link) (almost dead center on the drawing).

7, 8 & 9 on the IS.

Looks like 4 bullets on 7. Can't figure where 9 plugs into, for the brake lights (your 3 pin connector).

6 & 7 on the T
http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/1999-honda-valkyrie-tourer-gl1500ct-wire-harness/o/m151388sch613765

Looks like 5 bullets on 6.

I know I have one, maybe 2, main wire harnesses for the IS. So I can cut one up.

I'm adding more, the rear fender brake light. Also have Hyper Lites to add. I might make the trunk removable, so also interested in the How-To. I just picked up my replacement rear fender last night.
