I'm pretty sure my pair valve system has a leak and it is making a clicking noise! I was looking at just taking it off but I read somewhere that if I do the back tire might start locking up while down shifting! I need some input from the  pro's any input would be great! Thanks! I have a 1999 Valk with 28000 miles!!

Whitey, the pair valves are associated with the the exhaust system. The have reeds inside that when operating properly will click. They inject fresh air into your exhaust to burn off any fuel in the muffles or headers as to lean out the exhaust. A desmog of your bike will eliminate them and the air pipes going to your exhaust, plus vacuum lines and the potential for vacuum leaks. I've desmoged my bike and except for no more clicking she runs the same.
As far as the rear tire locking up, I have never heard that.

Search and study threads for "Desmogging" that is what you would need to do, you cannot just simply remove the pair valves.

There is no danger of locking up the back wheel, whoever wrote or said that doesn't know squat about the Valkyrie

Yes, redeye has a great kit with everything you will need. I used the kit and it came out great.

Whitey--while you are at, it, why not add the Dan Marc fuel shut off?  It's easy while you have it disassembled for desmog and it will offer great protection against petcock failure and possible hydrolock.

Do a search for Dan Marc--lots of us have done it.  I think the thread by MarkT shows it the best.

on the other hand, since your pair valve is working properly - well if it is - and you're pleased with the performance, you don't have to desmog your bike. mine still has all the smog stuff on it and it runs fine. I do have a red eye desmog kit for whenever like a vacuum leak develops or something but for now I'm just leaving it alone.  My bike has 50k on it

Here's the link I was thinking about.  Authored by BonS, not MarkT.
