My 1998 GL1500CT has started leaking oil. I've just rolled over 75k miles and in need of detailed maintenance. I'm looking for someone with Valkyrie experience that I can trust who could replace engine seals and gaskets. I don't trust the local honda dealer because of the way they treated my bike in the past. They would rather work on 4wheelers anyway. Does anyone have a recommended mechanic or shop? I would be willing to travel a reasonable distance for the right relationship.

If the leak happens to be the gear shift location it is a very easy fix.  I am not much of a mechanic, but that was simple enough I was successful.

+1 my first thought also. A common problem for those leaking oil.

I would start by cleaning the engine completely, so you can find where the oil is coming from. Then ride it, and inspect it.

The other common place is the O-rings on the intakes. Actually is petrol, but is mistaken for oil.

Come back with where it's leaking from, and get some advice then. I've found most oil leaks just need a nut/bolt tightened a little (on my cars).

I just had Big BF by my house to work on my Valkyrie, I highly recommend him to anyone for Valkyrie work.
He happens to be traveling now to Alabama and comes to your house to work on your bike.
If you do have him work on your bike, make sure to get him to install a set of his horns on your bike...super loud

JWV 99 I,  Please tell me more about oil leaks from the gear shift and the easy repair. Mine seems to have an occasional drip. Pretty sure it is coming from the seal around the gear shift. Thanks for your help. Steve

Check out D. Ray Smith in Judsonia.

See his multipart Valk carb rebuild video in YouTube.

He is reputable.
