I seen an Interstate for sale on Ebay that had this shield on it, I also seen Vance and Jerry posting on the 1500 board about this shield so since I liked the way it looked, I decided to give it a try. Took some drilling of 2 new mounting holes and enlarging the other 2 mounting tabs. I also cut the sides since the shield stuck out about 2" off each side. Now for the test ride info: I came from a ceebaileys dark shield that sat at nose height as I like looking over the shield and it pushed air right to the top of my helmet. This Harley shield sits about chin height but it has a re curve lip at the top which gives some wind (not much) at eye height and the full air tot he top of my helmet. When I first sat on the bike I thought that I would have more wind on my face but that re curve lip does push air up. No buffeting at all, just some more wind which can be a good thing for this summer months. Now I should say that this test ride was with a half helmet, using a 3/4 or full helmet it feels and looks great. Compared to the CeeBaileys, this one is thin which makes it a good thing since the curvature has to be pushed out some.

This takes the IS to a whole new level. It keeps the classic look and perfectly blends it with a modern shield. Spot on!!!!!

Was thinking about that shield as well. Looks great Jack, doing my fairing mod's soon, I may go that route as well.

Jack, I really like that last picture....full on profile shot. The windshield really adds to the looks with that extra little ripple about halfway up. Mine is a tinted shield that's low enough I can look over the top, but at speed it kinda beats my brains out(probably obvious to some ) by hitting the top of my helmet. This might be an answer for me as well.

Thanks for the compliments guys, it is great when we get to play with our bikes and change it up. Steelcowboy has shown that we can/should think out of the box For those that would like to try it out, here is the shield I got, it is for the road glide and it is part # 57166-10A https://www.harley-davidson.com/store/wind-splitter-windshield-pa-20-5716610--1Jack, I really like that last picture....full on profile shot. This might be an answer for me as well. John, I think you had mentioned that your fairing is a Harley fairing, they make the Wind Splitter shields for the other fairing models. Yours and Nick's might be an easy no modification needed bolt on easy change. Check here: https://www.harley-davidson.com/shop/motorcycle-wind-protectionWas thinking about that shield as well. Looks great Jack, doing my fairing mod's soon, I may go that route as well. Go for it Nick, you will be having the fairing apart, you might as well go all the way Love it! Where did you order it from and what was the cost? What size is it? Vance, If you decide to go for it, there is a cut that you have to make to the right of the outside mounting holes so that the chrome garnish will fit. I did not think to take pics but once you lay the top garnish over the shield you will see what I mean.

Jack,
Looks great, very nice work!
Could you take a measurement from the top of your gas cap, just in front of the lock, to the top of the windshield? This would make a good reference measurement.
Thank you

Jack I might have to go your route, it easy and changes the whole front end look. It's mods like this that keep our gurls looking so young. I'll look for one at Sunday's swap in Webster.

As I compared to the windshield that was on the Interstate that was for sale, this is the one that came close to it. I looked at height and shape of the middle curves.

Here is a couple of pics that might help you out, first one shows about how much of the shield I decided to cut. I had to cut along white line in order to clear the mounting hole for the chrome garnish. You can cut as much or as little as you would like or not cut anything at all if you just drill the mounting holes. I used a drill for the holes and used it in reverse action so it basically melts through, I have heard that some materials might crack when you drill through it. My son's friend found out when working on plexiglass for his car. I did have to enlarge the holes some so I also used a Dremel with a metal tip that worked as a router. Anyone else thinking of doing the mod, Eddie brought up a point that I forgot to mention. The curvature of the shield leaves a gap between the shield and the chrome garnish, an easy fix, I used a 3"x1" piece of soft rubber attached to the fairing using double sided 3M tape, the shield is very flexible so it pushed it out so that it followed the curvature of the chrome garnish leaving no gap. Good luck with your install and post here with the outcome

Check Craigslist or Ebay before you go for the new one, some find that it does not provide the wind protection they thought so they end up selling at a discounted price, always good when you can save some $$$

Eddie Great job, I can see that yours sits lower than mine, I did not trim anything from the bottom of the shield, I only cut the sides. I could use an extra inch shield height that is. I do believe that for a long out of state ride, I would change to a taller shield for comfort and more wind protection. For now, this is the shield that will stay on

Has anyone here looked at or tried the Wind Vest 9", 12", or 14" light or dark smoke tinted Road Glide windshield as seen at http://www.windvest.com/products/products.html ? It also has the flip/curl at the top edge which deflects the wind to make it perform like at 3-4" taller shield
