Cutter, I've been running a DS tire on two valks for a combination of about 70K and if you want to ride mine to see if you like it or not get me a shout. I get between 24K and 28K on a rear tire. Smiley

the dunlops and I can live with that. I like the looks and would be willing to give it a try, besides I think it just looks cool. What has kept me from doing it is that I like the lean factor and not sure if I want to have to push the bike into the corner. That's from reading what the CT guys seem to be the thing to get use to doing. I don't know any shops up here on the north side that would put a car tire on and thats the one thing I'm not set up to do. (yet) Heading to the hill country end of April so I'll need to do which ever before then. Thanks

Just take the tire and rim to a tire store.  Tell them it is for a trailer, or a sidecar.  Have them mount it. Usually no problem.  My local Honda dealer did mine without a peep.

Do you think it is the tire's design or possibly reversing the rotation that could cause the instability?

I'm not sure, but nothing I have tried has made it stable enough to be comfortable at highway speeds, so I am about to order an Avon. I thought about reinstalling the tire in the correct rotation direction and see what that does, but I don't have the equipment to do it myself and I will just be throwing more money into something that may still not work. If anyone else is interested in trying it, I will have an almost new D404 for sale in a couple weeks.

Hey Fla.Jim,
Do you or The Grand Dude have your rotations reversed-on the tire I mean?

Not Fla. Jim, but I believe they do have them in reverse rotation as per a previous post by Fla. Jim.  That is where I got the information about running it in reverse rotation on the front due to the tread joint overlap.

Yes we do. There is in my opinion  many possible reasons for the instability... Mine was low air preasure. You also might have bad neck bearings or even a bad tire. Due to twice the tread it does take quite awhile to scrub them in. Seems like at least a 1k miles for me with fairly aggressive riding. Also have heard of bad shock bushings in the rear and worn swingarm bearings doing the same thing......Could just be the tire though so proceed at your own risk/adventure setting.( - =

I'm running a D404 on the front and I did have some instability but only in the first 200 miles and not once since then. Specifically, when I would pass a car and re-enter the right lane at 85 mph the front tire would wobble a little. Now I pass cars at speeds up to 100 and the tire is as stable as any I've ever had.

The tire rides and handles comparable to an Avon Venom but the traction in the curves is even better, which beats the hell out of any other Dunlop I've ever run on the front. My chicken strips are smaller than any other tire I've had because it sticks so well in the curves. I've never gotten more than 10k out of a Dunlop front or 11k out of an Avon front but this one will far surpass them.

Are you using a 130/90-17?  It is a little narrower and shorter.  Any problems?
