Tucson - Its a dry heat

Have rather an odd question; but as I'm been told I'm a bit odd, its ok... Cheesy
Involved in a little long term project here; basically making a Super Valk by stuffing an 1800 engine into an old Valk frame.:
http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,79491.0.html

Have most of the hard-hard stuff figured out (swingarm, shock, rear engine mounts, starter, shaft, etc); though still have yet to get a rolling frame with engine - but I'm close.  If work did not suck away half my weekends, things would be faster... but I digress... tickedoff

Thinking ahead, still have some soft-hard items; electrics, radiator, exhaust being the big items.  Considering a short-cut on the electrics.  The 2003 Wing donor has a literal mile of wiring and a few dozen systems to delete for my needs.  It also has the ECU which mates to the dash for display of stuff - including the all important FI long-short error codes.  While I can spend a month of weekends and start pulling the wiring harness apart, and find a spot for the ECU, the Wing dash is a no-go.

So.  That's all back-story for this crazy project - now the query:
The 2014+ Valk dash appears almost perfect; and when combined with the matching wiring harness (vastly simplified from the 03 Wing) and CPU, would prolly save me months of time.

I don't see a major problem - but I am also "winging it" Wink a bit.  I know the Wing 1800 engine is ...almost... unchanged since inception. The only changes I can find so far is:

1. The alternator changed in 06 (?), so may need to change that.
2. The throttle body also changed in 06 - from a 3 to a 2 cable system.  Don't know if any interaction with the CPU changed. I have verified that the intake manifold is the same.
3. And maybe a sensor or 2 changed?
4.  I have intentionally picked a donor without ABS - that would complicate things more.  And I would use a non ABS Valk.

Other than that, anybody know of any other differences, ASSUMING (from what I have read) that the 2014+ Valk engine is indeed a 2014+ Wing engine?

TIA for any assistance...Or even... "I thought I remembered reading that somebody said..."  Grin

Fuel system including injectors, rails and pressure regulator along with fuel pump and different pressures. Throttle body has another sensor and maybe another valve but I think the valve is for cruise.
The engine computer is different along with programing differences, The basic engine is the same.

Not that it really makes a difference to your project but there are design differences in the engines and transmissions through the years. One example is the transmission clutch dogs are beefier in the 13 and forward years. I dont know all the differences but you can look them up if interested.

Thanks for the reply Robert.
I've done some checking. and the injectors themselves appear to be the same.
The fuel rails are different, but that should not affect operation.
From the 03 to the 14 Wing, the fuel regulator is on the rail, same part number.  But I cannot find it on the Valk parts list?
I'm going with an aftermarket Fuel Pump - a gent on the GL1800 site found one off a Bronco (!) believe it or not...

Unless something comes up that becomes a deal breaker, I'd be changing to the 2014+ Valk meter, ECU, and wiring harness.  I ...think... other than some sensors, changing to all three item should make the swap almost painless.

Do you know of a singular reference for differences betwixt the Wings? I've just kind of made notes from different threads on different sites.

Thanks again!

The fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel pump on the Valk. I dont know which ecu you are using the wing or the Valk but they both are dialed in to different fuel pressures. The wing will stumble if it doesn't have all the fuel pressure sensors or regulator hooked up.  The difference in rails is due to one being a closed system and one with a regulator, bypass, the Wing.

This site lists all wing in all years and also lists some differences in one place a pretty detailed collection although not engine mechanical changes through the years.

I love this site it gives all the bikes that a part applies to world wide. The problem is you have to have a part number and its in French.
