I’m in need of new dampers, but Honda no longer makes them and they are not available. I’ve tried Honda, Bikebandit, Directlineparts. Nobody has them. Is there a vendor that May have them?

If I cannot find a set, can I wrap my old ones with maybe duct tape or something to make them tighter in the wheel. They have some slack that’s why I need to replace them. Thanks in advance for any help!

I would check around, I just bought a set of Honda dampners from one of the larger suppliers about 2 months ago. I can't remember what one right now, I will look for the receipt.

Here it is,

Also, order up the IS ones. They are one apart and are less expensive than the Std/T ones, which are 2 parts, rubber with meta inserts.

They only make the IS ones now.  You cannot get the original ones anymore as the IS ones are of superior design.  They all fit though

How do you get to know the dampners are needed?
At what miles (km) is the tme for replacing?

Next time you change your tire, look where the dampers are and
look at how much they "wiggle" and how much ground up dust
from them is present.

With the wheel off remove the bolts from the plate that covers the dampers.  look at the wear and how much rubber is sitting in the recesses.  Stick a screwdriver in the metal bushing and see if it moves (it shouldn't) if they are worn on the outside or the bushing is loose then replace them.

I want to give a big shout out to Brian (parts guy) at Pompton Powersports here in NJ. It's a Honda dealer about an hour away from me. I called, and he said his system showed out of stock and backordered until January 2018. But he said he would physically check his shelves. I was shocked when he called me back in 40 minutes and said he had 1 set in stock and would hold it for me. Picked it up a couple hours later. Thanks Brian!!

Shocked

I've a spare set, plus the ones I had removed from my wheel this year, when I replaced them with the ones I got from Gary the Dampener Guy, before he passed.

I can only speak for myself. But, a few years back I bought a couple sets. Someone said they were easier to install if you put them in the freezer overnight. So I put both sets in a freezer I have in our garage. One set I installed, the other set has been patiently waiting for 4 years.  Cool

No photos to see thanks to Photobucket but my Gary dampners fell apart.

Thinking that the dampers should fit tight within their slot is fallacy. There needs to be an engineered looseness in order to allow the star to fit properly. The only proper way to determine if the dampers need to be replaced is to attempt to turn the star observing the amount, if any, of the looseness. A bit of looseness is proper.

Last time I checked, mine were in good shape, but had shrunk a bit.  If they're still good next time I look at them, i might just make and put in a rubber/plastic shim at the end of each one to take out the slop.

I might be mistaken, but when new, there is no looseness.  If things are misaligned, the star simply wouldn't go into the dampers.

Make sure you check the package they're in, could be freezer burn if not vacuum sealed....lol

Can you smell this thing staring to go bad? I was chasing a burning rubber smell yesterday and it made me think of this. pretty hard riding so it might have been tires.
