Hello all. Well the wife still wont ride and I only do several camping trips per riding season so am "pulling the pillow!" It looks kinda of nice because it shows more of that creme and red fender too! Still want to keep the side brackets attached to the fender though so I can add the orig backrest bar back on easily when I go camping. So that leads me to my question: Are there any aftermarket mini backrest bars out there that might be used instead of having one fabricated and chromed? The height would be kind of even with my Mustang seat but could go a little higher if need be. I do have a drill press so could align my own holes as needed. The outside spread of the lower original sissy bar legs are 9" I did look at JP cycles and a mini back bar to fit the Valk is 200-300 dineros... too rich for my blood. I''m sure I am not the only out there that has come up with this novel solo seat idea so any suggestions or ideas are appreciated. Many Thanks! Tom (no I'm not in the dog house with the wifey!)

I count myself as one of the lucky ones who have one of those fender racks. They used to be $35 or something back when BBP still made them. Since then I've seen them sold in the range of $300 on eBay. They make your bike look awesome and make for crummy racks ... -Mike "I got mine in 2007 or so when they were still $35..."

Nice looking bikes....I bought a 2001 that's not here yet...are the two side sissy bar upright backets hard to remove....I was thinking of doing that instead of whats offered here.....thanks...I do however like this idea too...I had a show chrome 53-448 rack for $90 on my last 98 Valkyrie...used the back chrome bracket and had to fabricate out of aluminum a front one...only about a half inch stuck out from under the seat so you didn't even notice it...I posted a couple of pictures on here...a few yrs ago

You have to remove the fender tails, them remove the uprights from the fender rails. Only take the rails off one at a time. Trust me

Dunno if this is the appropriate spot to add this, but I have wished that someone would come out with an adjustable driver backrest that attaches to the fender rails. It would make the long haul trips nicer.

The entire seat should be adjustable in the front / back direction, as well.

You can get the solo fender rack for the Shadow Aero 750 and with some tinkering it can be made to fit. There is a thread on the forum here somewhere that talks about it. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,39114.0.htmlI ended up doing that since I couldn't find the Valkyrie specific ones... Looks nice solo.

Protac used to make a drivers backrest that mounted to the fender rails. I had one on my Magna. It worked great!

I have a Protac backrest on my S83 and it is great. Unfortunately, they do not make them for the Valkyrie.

Tried a Utopia a while back and didnt care for it, it hit my back funny. That Protac looks like it was getting there, but I figure if a design used the two bolts off the fender rails and then had an adjustable mechanisim to hold the back rest that allowd any position that the rider desired, would be the "gotta have" for long haul trips.

Adjustment of the Pro Tac backrest angle was done by removing it, putting it on the ground putting your foot on it and trying to bend the sturdy stainless bar stock a little. I'm not kidding. Adjustment of the Pro Tac backrest height was accomplished by sawing off some of the legs (hopefully the same amount on each side). I had one. Not on a Valk. It was somewhat better than no backrest at all. But when I pushed back where I wanted to be, the bar stock hit my back/hips. I couldn't bend it further forward without being in constant contact with the bar legs, so I found a soft vinyl binocular case that fit pretty good, and pulled it over the top pad, and stuffed additional foam rubber up under the front part of it. It worked OK, but it looked like it fell off the Beverly Hillbillies car. Backrest by Bushnell. It reminded me of my CB750K, which had a sissy bar that was adjustable all the way up to be a driver's backrest. It wasn't that good either. To be fair, these probably work on some bike better than others. Of course they were way cheaper than having to buy a whole new aftermarket seat with attached backrest (which is exactly why I came to own one).
