Ever since I got my iPad for Xmas, I been winning $1,000 gift cards from Amazon prime. Bet I’m up to $40,000 worth now. Right... So I’m done with being so lucky, and want to give someone else a try. How the F do I make this crap go away? Son in law says go to Best Buy where it came from and see if they can fix it. But that would involve a mall and stoopid people everywhere. Meathead, you recommended the iPad, so I’m holding you responsible for my predicament! Rob, j/k, but any ideas? Anyone else help ? Thanks, Craig

Don’t click on them, that just encourages the bastards. hopefully Serk will see this, I’m sure he will likely have a fix.

Hey Craig;
I've had a iPad for 5-6 years and never got a gift card offer.
Is it from e-mail?

Morning Bill, no email, it shows up randomly, and locks up the iPad so I have to shut it off then turn back on. Then it shows up on top, where my last few sites visited are. Seems worse while I’m on Craigslist and local newspaper site. But has shown up on most sites visited. Pisses me off, the only thing I ever bought from Amazon was a 2 dollar part for my pool like 5 years ago.
Rob, how long till it went away? Did yours come from Best Buy too? Bill, you can have mine...
Thanks, Craig

I think it’s more like those stupid pop up ad things. I haven’t got any for awhile, but I think they were coming thru email. Craig, you’ve probably already done this. But make sure your updates are coming thru and getting done. Also try doing the reboot. Morning Bill, no email, it shows up randomly, and locks up the iPad so I have to shut it off then turn back on. No Best Buy, I think Brenda got it at Walmart or online. Also try clearing out your cookies and crap. Go to settings, click on Safari and then down a ways is something like “clear cookies and history”

Think the only app I added was Intellicast weather app. Maybe utube? Can’t remember if that came on it. Do all the updates. I’ll try the cookies and clear history next. Thanks Craig

I get the pop up on 2 sites I consistently visit. The Corvetteforums and ChevelleTech. It comes and goes a couple of weeks ago I just stopped using them for a few days. I am fairly convinced it is an issue with the sites being hacked and then being corrected by the site admins. I don’t think the iPad is at fault although it may be more susceptible to this that a pc, maybe ??
I started using the iPad about a year ago and I have found for my use to be much better than my old laptop.

Did a little googling, and seems this is pretty common. Apple's recommendation is to do this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987My recommendation is to go ahead and shoot it and replace it with a quality Android device. It won't help, we're not immune from these problems either, but just on principal and all.

f6john, exactly what I got, it won’t show up for a couple days, then pop up 10 times a day for a couple days. Bill, I know that if I didn’t have bad luck, I’d have none at all. NO way I’m clicking on it, new bike or not, I know better... Jmencalice, I was thinking more like the 1187 & huck it off the deck...PULL! Thanks Serk, time will tell if it works. Sometimes if you delete the History and data from the settings menu it helps. Also Firefox makes an ad blocker for Apple in their browser that you can download. It has private browsing that blocks all ads.
But to erase the history, data and cookies go to settings>Safari>scroll down to erase history and website data, tap on it. Then adjust your privacy settings in the same menu. It does give you the ability to block ads and it gives other options too.
Ive never liked Apple OS for the computer but love it for the phone and I pads. I also dont like the premium price for Apple computers and you cannot really build them either.

I wouldn't take it to BB, most of those Geek Squad kids are jus' reading a manual & actually know very little 'bout problem solving (they don't get very good training). I'd search for a local comp repair place with good ratings/reviews, they'll most likely wipe & reinstall the OS, probably tell you they see it all the time. Best of Brother!

Thanks all for the replies. I did the cookie & delete history thing, and it’s only happened once since. The local paper still does it, but not every visit. Better is good... Craig

The problem is not on the user end. It's generated from within the web site, somehow. No amount of cleaning, restoring, or deleting anything on the iPad will stop it. I get it the worst on the Challengertalk forum which has become practically unusable on the iPad. I get it once in a while on other sites as well, but it's really bad on that car forum.
You simply close the window and open a fresh window because there's no other way to get around the damn thing.
BTW... it also happens on the iPhone, which is running the same operating system, but it's not nearly as prevalent. I guess that's because most people don't do the same amount of site surfing on a phone.

It's not too late to shoot it and switch off the evil Apple product... Just saying... Apple is the devil and all... (Kinda literally, IOS is based off of FreeBSD, who's mascot is the Daemon, vs. Android, which is based off of Linux, who's mascot is a fat penguin: (90% tongue in cheek, but factually true too... )

By the way... I noticed in an earlier post that you used a funny oxymoron when you said "Quality Android". I've always had a preference for the openness of Android over the walled garden of Apple, but considered the IOS products to be harmless, just bad clones of Android awesomeness, until work assigned me an iPhone... (The Federal Government, it's not their money, so spend it wildly and such, ya' know...) Now I seriously have to wonder how anyone can get anything done on one of these backwards pieces of backwardness... Ugh, it makes my brain hurt trying to use it... But... to each their own... Just like some folks prefer Harleys to Valkyries I 'spose, some folks prefer the awkwardness of Apple to the openness of Android... I'll take my Note 8, heck even my Note 4, over any Harley Phone, but whatever works for ya'... (To OP, don't pay us any mind, just having a Harley vs. Honda pissing contest at this point...)

While Android had its origins in Linux the true owner of this OS is Google. A company that unlike Apple makes gathering of personal information and the sale of it along with advertising its main income. It was made for the purpose of Google to market its products and mining its data on users, not as a true OS. Apple seems to have taken a bit of a different approach in making a true OS to market the OS itself and for the sale of its own products and services. The difference is Google is the prostitute on the block and doesn't care who markets its OS, products and services to as long as they all point back to Google and Google has access to all the information. Compared to Apple that keeps a tight control on what information is collected and does somewhat ensure privacy to the user. While Microsoft still is having problems migrating out of the OS business profile and wants to be more like Android. While the origins of Apple IOs was Unix the same as Google, Apple's marketing and research led to a true operating system for Apple that could power computers as well as other products and led to a different business model. I was laughing at some who say the Android is a better OS and easier to use when I have such a hard time on Android. It seem clunky and unfinished with little polish and just a bunch of features thrown together. At first I had a problem with Apple OS since its so intuitive that unlike other Operating systems it doesn't require all the steps to do what you want to do. https://www.androidauthority.com/history-android-os-name-789433/ In 2005, the next big chapter in Android’s history was made when the original company was acquired by Google. Rubin and other founding members stayed on to continue to develop the OS under their new owners. The decision was made to use Linux as the basis for the Android OS, and that also meant that Android itself could be offered to third-party mobile phone manufacturers for free. Google and the Android team felt the company could make money offering other services that used the OS, including apps If you’re using an Android phone, Google may be tracking every move you make
