GM has debuted a new 4 cam twin turbo V8 with 550 hp. It’s going in a Cadillac platform first. There has been talk of a smaller V8 for the Corvette for years and also the possibility of a 4 cam engine too. Looks like it will happen. Chevy has been getting unreal hp from its push rod naturally aspirated engines for close to 20 years starting with the ls1 design.

I’m betting that a max performance version of the new Cadillac engine will show up in the new mid engine Corvette on the drawing boards now.

So Honda wasn’t the only one thinking they need more cams!   cooldude

If you can make it breathe, you can make horse power, look at a 2 cycle rotary port engine,,60 horses out of a 135cc. comet kart engine.

Yeah, there has been some discussion on another forum I frequent with several folks just waiting for this engine to hit the salvage yards or after market just so they can slap it into their preferred cage.    I won't see that happen.   But would love to drive such a ride.    That engine in a 2700 lb. cage would be a kick ass ride!!!

Friend of mine bought a new Caddy 550hp CTS Sport something or other, bought it with what was described as a Stage 2 kit installed. Resulting in something like 725hp, he's a little crazy....I won't ride with him. The car looks a bit like a station wagon, silver, neat looking ride but geez.....725? It's his money!  crazy2

John, they made a wagon with that engine and a coupe whose roof line is so flat that it could be mistaken for a wagon from the rear. Giveaway is the wagon is only a four door and the coupe is a two door.  The current 550 hp version is a supercharged 6.2 liter push rod V8 and tuners have no problem coaxing the extra 175 hp out of that setup. Reliability??? Some guys are turbo charging the current ls based pushrod V8’s and 1000hp plus is attainable with an excellent builder/tuner.

in general, more hp and more turbos = more headaches and reliability/longevity goes way down IMO

but if you got 50K or more to spend on a car, then money is no object

True, and most all require 93 octane which raises the cost of everyday operation. My 90 year old mother has a 2015 Buick Regal Turbo and I have to say the turbo really wakes up a small 4 cylinder engine. It drives pretty normal most of the time as Buick has a very mild tune in the computer but anytime you need it the boost is right there and provides a good push in the back. If I had one I’m afraid I’d be testing the boost too much and at the wrong time.

I have thought about supercharging or turbos for my Corvette which is about $8-10,000 all in and would really transform the driving experience. The problem is the additional power puts so much stress on the drivetrain you’re looking at another $5-10,000 in upgrades to the clutch, torque tube, transmission, and differential. You have to pay to play I guess.

As someone once asked me, "How fast can you afford to go?"   Speed and acceleration cost $$$.
