I'm hoping someone knows something about this.

I bought a 1490 LMT because I read, on line, that you can download routes into the 1490. That's even what it says on Garmin's web site.

Supposedly you go to Google Maps, plot out the route, copy the URL it builds and paste it into another web site at http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/.

That creates a .GPX file that can then be copied into the GPX Folder on the Garmin, or transferred to the Garmin using BaseCamp.

I've tried, several times by the end result is a mess. I get a lot of Points of Interest and crap like that but I don't get a complete route.

I left a help request on Garmin's support board and the answer I got back was to follow the same procedure. It's not working for me !

Maybe I'm doing something wrong - I just don't know - I've tried everything I can think of.

I'm hoping someone has some experience and know-how on this so I can plug in some routes I plan on running later this Spring.

Thanks,
Mark

I have a Garmin 660  with an SD card and use the HD road planner.

https://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/ridePlanner.jsp

1. For your start point select add location on the map.

2. Add waypoints by right clicking with the mouse.

3. The destination must end as an add location icon

Finally select export my ride.

It will save as a GPX file.

I then paste the GPX to my SD card on my garmin.

If all else fails, and FWIW, I’ve had excellent results from their phone tech support over the years.
Good luck.

Rather that using that complicated method to get your route on to your Garmin.

Go to https://www.myrouteapp.com/en and create a free account. Use this to plot your route and then download and transfer straight to your Garmin either by using the usb cable or save it to your computer and upload it.

This is a bikers mapping app rather than a general mapping app that Google Maps is and it allows virtually unlimited waypoints unlike Google Maps.
