OWCH!!  What are you driving?  A Kenworth?  My 1 ton Dually was $200.00 and my box truck was $250.00.

My tags (annual registrations) are not too bad.  They even give me a buck or two off if I do it for two years.

But I doubt most of you live in states where they think it's reasonable to charge sales tax when you buy, then (county) personal property tax on every vehicle, every year, forever (or until you die, whichever comes first).  Like real estate, based on value. Unlike real estate, they do go down a little every year, but they never stop.  My annual personal property tax on the 19 yo Valk is still more than the annual registration (close to double).

And just to give you an idea of how greedy they are, when the wife moved out a few years back, she changed her license to her new county address, but then both counties wanted her to pay personal property taxes on her cars.  And she had to fight with the old (my) county for quite some time.

We don't believe you moved, you're just trying to get out of paying our taxes.

Well come on down to my new house, all my stuff is there, you'll see.

But I owe my new county these taxes (here's the receipt), why would I pay my new county taxes just to avoid your taxes?

People do all kinds of thing to cheat us out of our taxes.

Well, look, I changed my address on my driver's license as the law requires,  and they believe me.

That's the DMV, we're the county tax assessors, we don't have to believe what the DMV believes.

She finally got them to believe her, and straightened it out.  But next year, they billed her again anyway.

I guess maybe they thought she might pay them too anyway.

Did you ever stop to think how many taxes are tied to motor vehicles?  (sales, registration, title, every gallon of gas, every quart of oil, every tire, every old tire thrown out, every part, safety inspections, emissions, and on and on)

They must think if you own a car, you are wealthy.

They sure do, at least when it comes to taxes. Last month I paid $123 to renew the tags on two bikes, one SUV, and one bike hauling trailer. We don't have personal income tax or property tax like Virginia, our sales tax rate varies by county, where I live is 6.5%. Our home/auto insurance is rather high due mostly to the hurricane issue, and like elsewhere the real estate taxes vary according to location....ours runs about $2700/year. Insurance bundle is around $3300/year for just the SUV and the house.

When the Wrestler was our Governor its the one thing he changed for us in Minnesota.  Got rid of licensing trailers every year now just one time license, lowered all other registrations but the politicians slowly trying to creep them up.

I paid $15 to register the bike and $55 to register an 05 Malibu.  Wifes new Toyota cost $265 can't remember what the truck cost but it wasn't bad.

Not sure of the exact numbers, but I would guess here in the mitten ours would rival any of them.
They recently raised them all considerably under the guise of needing the funds for fixing the roads.
If you live I need southeastern Michigan you know our roads need more than fixing. Then, I found you read the fine print, you find it what the funds actually go to is replenishing the general fund, which they borrowed from a few years ago, to fix the roads back then. The latest punch Tom the gut Ismaili the increase to the uninsured motorists fund. This is a fund, set aside for the insurance companies, that already has $22 billion in it. It is designed to reimburse them for catastrophic claims made due to accident s caused by folks who illegally don't have insurance. What a racket.

Getting ready to pay $78 for Valk, this is for two years.   My several year old truck and SUV are around $150 or so (don't remember for sure).  None of the renewals are at the same time. 

Heck of a lot better than tags in CA.   I was paying double what I pay now and for only one year.

Our van is $80 per year, costs depend on safety rating and its the accident cover that varies.

wow, some of the premiums for registration or insurance, etc. per state varies greatly.  I knew they differed, but not that much.

My wife and I started talking about registration fees a lot come due April 30th and joking we should open up a used car/cycle/atv lot with 4 cars, 5 cycles, 2 ATVs, and an enclosed trailer keeping the DMV in business for sure.
