While NSA already does this for some reason this smacks more of Orwells 1984 than the NSA does. Are we loosing the internet freedom now? Its getting harder and harder with the access to the internet and supposed freedom to get the real news and information on a story. But the news media is programed and many are susceptible to the false narratives broadcast. We are loosing the ability to get news and information that is opposite the way that our handlers want us to go. We are not free in a society that we cannot find the unbiased truth, either way. But this is the way things are going you better buckle up. If you couple that with Antifa and other protests it paints a fairly gloomy picture of the media.

Article:

The Department of Homeland Security wants to track the comings and goings of journalists, bloggers and other “media influencers” through a database.

The DHS’s “Media Monitoring” plan, which was first reported by FedBizOpps.gov, would give the contracting company “24/7 access to a password protected, media influencer database, including journalists, editors, correspondents, social media influencers, bloggers etc.” in order to “identify any and all media coverage related to the Department of Homeland Security or a particular event.”

The database would be designed to monitor the public activities of media members and influencers by “location, beat and influencers,” the document says.

Unsafe to the community’: Facebook takes on pro-Trump Diamond and Silk

I saw Diamond and Silk interviewed this morning (Fox News) and how they have been banned by Facebook.  If they can be banned for simply saying things that are positive about our president, what does that tell you?

I was virtually banned from my brother’s house for Christmas this past year because I had had the nerve to say to his adult daughters and the rest of our family (the previous year) that being on and using Facebook was potentially dangerous and to be careful.  He called me a Paranoid and immediately challenged me on that, like he does anything else I have ventured to say over the past decade.  (Him: “That’s not true! What’s your source? Oh, well then, no wonder you say that. That’s just right-wing BS.”)  I went on to ask him if he’d ever heard of Dr. Chris Barnard or Marilyn vos Savant. When he say “no” I told him that Dr. Barnard was the first person to ever perform a successful human heart transplant. I told him that vos Savant, a well-known and highly respected columnist, has the highest IQ ever recorded, according the Guinness Book of World Records. I then told him that neither of them use Facebook or ever will as it is a very dangerous entity and rife with potential abuse.  As a result, I have never signed up.  And as a result of that, they don’t have my personal data.  (Anymore than any other ill-intentioned group, including aspects of our government, already does.)  And no, I don’t have a Twitter account, Snapchat, or any other social media account either.  (Caveat: as a long-time business owner and educator I did join LinkedIn when it first popped up.  When it had already created my network on its free service over a period of years, it then informed me that to continue to use LinkedIn as first promised I was now going to have to have a paid account. I quit LinkedIn that day.)

Yes, I know that people use Facebook for the most innocuous of things.  People my age (67) tell me that they need it to stay in touch with their grandchildren, or some other such thing.  (Try calling or visiting in "real life".  It actually works.)  Business people I mentor who are in their twenties and thirties have a whole other take on it and have grown up with it.  I try to show them how, like any tool (including guns) it can be useful when used for “good”, but how to be wary of the potential dangers.

PS: Dr. Barnard and Ms. vos Savant became husband and wife.  Very interesting story about how that all happened.  I’ll take the advice of people like them before I’d ever take the advice of a progressive malcontent (like my “little” brother).

And no, I don’t have a Twitter account, Snapchat, or any other social media account either.
I don’t either, but it was pointed out to me a while back that the VRCC forum is Social Media. So I guess we have both been sucked into the evilness.  Wink

That's a perfectly valid and true point. As is that every email I have ever sent anyone since email first was invented is stored somewhere and won't go away. That is why I've always tried to be so careful.

Example: I have read many of this Forum's posts regarding guns. I have opinions on the gun debate, but you won't hear me express them on ANY media. When I learned that some entities are using what you say/post on social media to determine whether or not YOU have the right to exercise your personal Second Amendment rights or not, I really questioned the value to me of expressing my opinion to strangers for no other reason than to make myself feel heard. "Paranoia" has its purposes. Everything you have ever "said" online can and will be used against you. Probably by people who are not in office at the moment. And that's all I have to say about this subject!   Cool

A quick search (wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Department_of_Homeland_Security) shows that: "Homeland security policy is coordinated at the White House by the Homeland Security Council.".

My guess is that this new policy of tracking journalists was decided by the white house (a.k.a. Trump administration), no?

There is a bit of a difference between Face plus most of the social networking sites and here, they mine the information and sell it. I doubt very seriously the admin would make much of anything off our information  2funny I also doubt if there is much that is not known already about anyone.

I would think the younger generation would wise up when they go for a job and social media is one of the criteria to get the job. Heck you can look on a realestate website and find much information about the person who owns the house. Its pretty scary, in Europe you can opt out of some sites for keeping your information but here people have written Google to be taken out of their database and 6 months later are still waiting for a reply.

Kugo you sound well informed to bad the your brother and family is not. The more I hear about Facebook the more information is coming up that it was NSA code that was used. The Zuck already cashed out over a month ago so he knew there was something coming down the road. I'm a bit surprised with all the news stories about this your brother has not changed his views.

I think more and more we are going to see this divide. The plans to integrate the US into the boarder less society has taken a blow for now but in the future when we have someone different at the helm we may all be in trouble.

Not real sure what this is supposed to accomplish, it not very hard to figure out who is in favor of what.

Now, if they track and report who reports "fake", inaccurate or false news and publish it, that might be refreshing.   Doesn't matter which side does it, if it's slanted or fake, call them out.

One thing I have noticed is, there is rarely a flattering picture or headline of our current President and yet, try to go back and find the same type of coverage for the previous President.     There is definitely favoritism and news is slanted against President Trump.

I am not a fan of President Trump even though I generally like the direction he is trying to take us.    I don't believe most conservatives really like the man but, the process gave us two choices.    The Dems' choice was totally unacceptable, Candidate Trump got my vote.
