The tragic loss of members of the Humboldt Broncos due to an accident with the team bus.

Sympathies for our northern neighbors to lose such fine young men, their coach, and radio announcer.

Very sad indeed. Young men just starting their lives.

My wife's nephew's son has just wrapped up his 3rd season in Juniors. This kind of hits close to home. They are on busses forever. I hope the families of these young men can find some peace. I have no idea how painful this has got to be for them.

Much appreciated.

I spent the day in Humboldt for the vigil. I am on a first responders reserve team that gets deployed when the stuff hits the fan.

One of the kids killed was a cousin of mine.

Tough few days.

This is something that all Canadians are thinking about, especially parents of sports kids like myself.  We are only a few years removed from the Bathurst van crash that killed most of a basketball team in New Brunswick.  Thank you for your support!!

First off...my heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this horrific tragedy, in their own communities as well as the hockey community everywhere.

Okay...here goes, just a layman's guess...From all information that I could get from various news media including aerial photos, I am convinced that the transport truck which was heading West on secondary Hwy 335 blew through the stop sign at considerable speed. The team bus was heading North on Hwy 35 and was T-Boned near the front section of the bus. There is a farmstead with a treed shelter belt that may very well have impeded the truck driver's visibility to the South. If the fully loaded tractor trailer had come to a full stop, there is no way that it would have had the speed to end up so far past the intersection on the opposite side of Hwy 35. With the bus's speed of 100 kph(60mph) and the truck's speed of maybe 10 kph(6mph)...from a full stop, the accident scene would have looked a lot different in my opinion.

Condolences Beardo. Prayers to all affected by this.

I've been hearing today about the just turned 21 year old who registered on the Organ Donner web site, parts going off to save 6 other lives, and the rest to research.

I was reading the General today, to see if anyone had posted about this yet. I see I'm a day late too. Happened on Fri 6.

Condolences Beardo for the loss of your cousin.

This news sadden me greatly, as well as the whole ice hockey nation.

The Bruins/Senators had a moment of silence before the game, as I'm sure every game across both the US and Canada paid respects to the Humboldt Broncos.

Blackhawks and Jets had a powerful pregame ceremony.  They joined in a circle during a moment of silence and playing of the Canadian national anthem, while all wore Broncos sweaters. Cry cooldude

Ice hockey is the great connector of two great countries. Eh.

Thanks guys.

The families are definitely feeling the outpouring of support from everyone. I’m not a big social media guy, I don’t have a Facebook account. But the messages, pictures and videos from around the world are making a difference.

My cousin’s favourite player was Ryan Suter. He sent a very kind message about him.

If anything good comes from this, it could be that we tell our loved ones that we love them more often. I used to give my son a kiss on the forehead and tell him I love him every night until he was about 7 or 8.  I stopped as he got older because it felt like I shouldn’t be doing that anymore.  He’s 20 now.

When I got home from Humboldt, he met me at the door and I gave him the longest hug and told him I love him. Same to my daughter. Said I love you before bed last night. We talked like we hadn’t talked to each other in years.

We struggle to find a reason when things like this happen. Maybe a reminder of our mortality is the reason. I will never pretend to know the reasons behind God’s plans. But maybe this is one of them.

From the information that's out there, the way the collision happened looks pretty straightforward.  The truck with two trailers was heading west, blew the stop sign that also had a flashing red light to draw attention to it, and the northbound bus t-boned one or both of the trailers.  The tractor was tipped on its side by its connection to the trailer, not because the tractor was hit, thus no damage to the hood.  The only things left to be determined are why did the truck driver blow the stop sign, and how fast was he going when he did.  At least he's alive to answer those questions; I hope he answers honestly, and I hope he quits driving professionally.

Beardo, my condolences for you and your extended family for the loss of your cousin.  I am unaware of possible connections to the victims that I might have, but both of my parents are from Saskatchewan, so it wouldn't surprise me if there are remote connections.

Semi driver probably drove that road many, many times and always blew the stop sign because of never encountering cross traffic or hardly ever encountering cross traffic.  Just a guess.  We have a T-intersection just 500 yards up the road from our sun porch (unobstructed view) where a stop sign was installed about 15 years ago to replace a yield sign that was originally there.  I estimate that one out of every seven vehicles actually stops from years of observing morons behind the steering wheels.
So, they are everywhere.

A tragedy that will not be soon forgotten there; maybe another flashing red light will be installed next to the memorial that will probably be built there.  All that can be done is to try to make it safer for the future.

Correct, death doesn't discriminate; it takes us all as we are.
This message was written to honor these young Canadian men, so only ask respect for their memories and nothing more. Embarrassed

Sorry, just read that a young lady of 25 who served as a trainer to the team also died from her injuries.  This just isn't getting better, but we pray that it does in time.  Bless them all. angel
