Felt fortunate that I found the latest Star Wars (The Last Jedi) on DVD at Target yesterday.

Anybody know if you can make ISO's of BluRay Discs ?

I'm so sorry, that last so-called Star Wars movie was so awful it turned this life-time Star Wars fanatic off... This upcoming one will be the first since Return of the Jedi (Which came out when I was in elementary school) that I don't see on or before opening day.

Anyway, I digress.... Just so disgusted by that steaming pile of bantha poodoo.

Yes, you can rip Blu-Ray discs. I haven't done it, got rid of my Blu-Ray player many years ago, but I know it can be done.

Man, It's getting harder and harder finding VHS tapes.

And where the hell did Blockbuster go?

I am under the same impression, even though we did purchase the movie (I feel my collection would be incomplete without it).  My 2 cents on bluray players is that the picture quality of a bluray movie is stunning.  Also, most new bluray players already have apps installed for Netflix and other streaming services (if your tv doesn't have these, it beats getting a new tv just for the apps).  And player cost is under $75 for a decent player.
My recommendation on brands is to go with Sony.  They tend to start up faster in my experience (bluray movies take longer to get to their menu than dvd movies.  My samsung player took nearly two minutes to play the movie after inserting it) .

Believe it or not, there are still a few Blockbusters hanging on for dear life...
(Mostly in Alaska, and in a few other extremely remote areas without good Internet coverage.)

Alaskans are just a stubborn breed. We were still using 8-Tracks until 2000.

I will never again buy anything made by Sony - not after they put the rootkit on the CDs / DVDs. it may well be my private boycott - that's my story and I'm sticking to it Smiley .

I have a Sony player in the bedroom and a Pioneer and LG player in the computer both perform well and you dont have the problems with authorizations. I have had the Samsung and a couple of other players and the updates and loading is a pain. Been switching to 4k discs now and my players will play both Blu Ray and 4k. To get the most out of Blu Ray or 4k you have to set up the player and the tv for the correct color and settings. Otherwise you will not get the clearest and cleanest picture.

To play Blue Ray on the computer you need a program such as Cyberlink Power DVD or you can get the VLC media player to play them also and its free.

Well crap.  It hasn't been extremely remote where I live since about 1750 or so.

And they didn't have Blockbuster here then either.

Wow Jess you been around a long time  Wink

Some days, it sure seems like it.

I was talking with a polite young lady at Navy Federal CU yesterday (phone; checking on interest for my taxes), and they always go through verifying who you are, which is usually a birth date (along with other secret handshakes and stuff), and when I told her it was back in the last century in 1953, she got the giggles.  I wasn't insulted or anything, I get the giggles too sometimes (but almost never while doing my taxes).

It's nice to finally get them done, and have the old Turbo E-file let you know they were accepted by both Fed and State by COB.  It's my experience that when you owe money and pay up on debit, they tend to accept them right away.

Navy Federal holds a few $K for me as my only local bank for cash, and I learned that if you had under ten bucks of interest they don't bother sending a 1099.  I asked if that meant since they didn't tell the Fed either, we could hide it from them.  She wisely advised against that.  Then told me I could make more interest if I opened a money market checking account instead of my ordinary one.  I thought about that for a second, and then said it hardly seemed worth the effort when my year end interest would have maybe doubled from $4 to $8.  And she was giggling again.

Nope, do your own hustling.

I'm out of the market for good now, and it's just as well.

At some point in the aging process, you change from a nice guy..... to a creepy old guy (at least to the gigglers).   Grin

and here my wife was complaining to me just tonight we are going to pay 35 cents per lb. to get rid of our working 26" picture tube TV and VCR player both of which has not been used in guessing 10 years or so.

still have not bought a blu ray DVD player though still have my 15+ year old basic JVC DVD player. works well for what little I use it.

Yah, I am behind the times some 10+ years or more.

I've stopped filling the DVD library some time ago.  It has around 3500 titles.  I bought some freestanding DVD racks from a closing Blockbuster, for the "mancave" aka home theater. I rarely use the DVD player anymore though I surely can with my library.  Streaming is the new delivery method. Assuming you have broadband of 25MB or better. With appropriate setup you can save them as AVI (or other) files and store them on various devices.  Space needed generally is about 1.5GB per title for decent resolution - I'm generally happy with 720p.  It's a tradeoff, sharp image vs. storage space.  A smart TV can play them directly from the file.  I generally bring them in on a computer then load them into thumb drives.  On my server I have 4 hard drives; it will support (for now) 4TB ea.  I don't know about larger drives, I've not bought one yet.  Price is still too high.  That's a lot of movies even subtracting the space of everything else on the PC, when the movies average about 1.4GB.  If it was all movies, that's 1143 titles.  On my machine, I've found drives over 2TB have to be plugged into SATA ports.  You can't plug them into a USB port using an adapter.  Of course IDE ports have been obsolete for some time now.  I have lots of internal drives not plugged in, that I can quickly add with Kingwin's Easy Connect SATA & IDE adapter. Buy lots of 128 or 256GB thumb drives and your movie storage becomes really small.  Then the issue is managing them.
