Solo1 found this on my trip down Route 66. The owner of the museum was surprised I knew what it was from across the room.

I do not think he comes here anymore sadly.
Nice bike. My cousin had one of these growing up when I was as teenager

If that thing backfired using the kickstart and you did not pull the compression release, you could get hurt.
Loved riding that thing. BSA 441 Victor

My dad (Solo 1) no longer comes to the board.  I will let him know that you were posting for him.

That’s a shame as I always enjoy his stories. His name popped into my head as soon as I saw it.

I don’t get on here as much since my grandson was born

Most people do not know BSA stood for Birmingham Small Arms.

My first bike (not that one), a Lightning.

Those 441 Victors (think they were all yellow) were cool one-thumpers.

I’m sure they were fine bikes, I never rode one though. But every one I was ever around (maybe 4 or 5) leaked oil .

If an older British bike didn’t leak oil, it was empty.

I ride a motorcycle because nothing transports me as quickly from where I am to who I am.

Mine didn't leak any oil.  Although after you oiled the chain (90Wt), it threw oil.

It didn't stop real well with drums.  And it had to be kick started.

And the clutch didn't last long either.

The funny thing to me is, at the time (and as my first bike, and the one I learned on, and there was no M on driver's licenses then) it was a big, heavy bike.  Now it seems kind of medium puny.

It was pretty quick too.  Until I raced the first Honda 750/4 I ever saw, which in about 6 seconds, all there was to see was distant tail lights.   Embarrassed

At that time, the big rage was the Honda 305 Super Hawk (with megaphones).

But what started me out on being motorcycle crazy my whole life was an older cousin who took me out in the hills of WVa, and just scared the hell out of me on the back of his 150 Dream (at about 12yo).  He'd just hold it wide open and at every hill crest, you'd come out of the seat.  Nothing up to that point in my life even came close to the pure thrill and excitement.  I knew right away I was gonna have to git me some of that.    (Girls came later)

You should have seen my parent's faces when they came home one day (17) and my 6mo old 650 Lightning was parked under the carport.   tickedoff  (seeking forgiveness was always easier than permission)
