One more turn should do it!

Kent, Ohio

« on: April 14, 2018, 09:25:57 AM »

Hello all,
Finally sat down with map in hand and started looking at route(s) to Inzane from NE Ohio.
At a glance US 250 down to US 220 and it appears 220 brings me into Roanoke. Any info on those two roads would be appreciated.
As I look at other routes it seems the route above is about my best choice. No others really go as directly south as this one.

Pais,
It has been years since I traveled across those roads except for 250 from Grafton to Elkins.  There is about 6 miles of 4 lane just before you get into Elkins.    However, I believe you will find that a most enjoyable route.  Watch out for turns that will try to sneak up on you and turns that hide gravel in the road till you are just feet away.  Also, this winter has been rough on the roads so be on the lookout for patches and potholes.  There should be folks that can give a more recent update on 250 south of Elkins and on 220.

That is the preferred route. Surface is usually in good repair and traffic flows nicely In mostly. You will encounter some congestion at spots, but can usually manage to keep rolling.
250 is very scenic, look for the Amish. It gets very twisty as you approach the Ohio River, but traffic sometimes gets hairy just before Wheeling.
Tip:
Take one of the side roads south off of 250 to avoid Wheeling, if traffic is weird coming down the mountain.  There are a couple that will take you to 220.
I’ve gone this way dozens of times.
Enjoy!  cooldude

The only part of 250 that stinks is between Wheeling and Moundsville. East of that is fine.

Might I suggest that once you get to Elkins, WV take 33 over the mountain to Franklin and pickup 220 there.

Rt 33 is really worth the ride.

I remember reading a long time ago that US 250east was one of the top ten motorcycling roads in the US. Rider magazine the article was in. That was a long time ago.
   I probably will give 33 a shot.
I want to keep it simple so I don't have to look at a map constantly. Cant read anything w/o a pair of cheaters on my nose!

US 250 and US 33 out of Elkins are both good routes.

It's hard to choose one over the other but if I had to pick, US 33 is a little more fun.
