Joe,

Life in the 'fast lane' sure is exhilarating!!! However, you do tend to get to the 'toll booths' much quicker... My guardian angel said thanks to me, after you posted that pic and narrative... She admitted I have given her great pause on occasion, but nothing like what yours has endured...

I surely hate to see and hear this! Best of luck to you on your recovery...

Wishing you a full recovery my Tennessee Chainsaw friend!

You were pretty close to becoming a pirate my friend, I would have provided an eye patch if you deemed a prosthetic peg leg necessary.

Shocked he said he wasn’t particularly annoyed at his switch hitting. Kind of tells me he might have already been there.

Joe, when the time comes for some rehab, here’s a safe way to get that yard work done and give that knee a little workout.

Chaps are cheap.

I never wore them until I started clearing for my house. I got nagged into them by the wife and my father. There were kind of nice for bustin multiflora rose, and, for the first time ever, I bounced the bar on a Husky 359 running wide open into my left thigh. The chain stopped, I didnt bleed. After that I dont run the saw without chaps on. When the son got big enough to run one, he got a set of his own.

I also started looking at them and found some made by Husqvarna.

When it comes to chain saws, sewing machines or dirt bikes, Husky still has a good rep.

The pictures in the ads don't all show the backs, but from what I can see, the Labonville and Husky's go all the way around the calf and the Husky has 3 lower straps in that area.

You could spend hours comparing the different materials, but any chaps are better than none.

reading one of the reviews on amazon, it was stated that some chaps are not rated for electric chain saws. Since I use gas and electric, I will need to do a lot more research.

Yeah, I saw that also, stated because of the extra torque and lack of E brake, on the sparky ones.

I would not push it too fast riding cycle of any kind.  My simple torn miniscus knee surgery had me laid up near 2 months before I felt comfortable enough to hold up the cycle.  That huge GASH of a cut seems a lot more painful and more recoupe time than one thinks.  Cry

When I smashed my pinkie finger crushing/cutting it to darn near the bone in a joint,  it hurt like heck and left a permanent scar.  Your knee gouge has to be 100x's more painful.  Keep the pain meds coming as needed.  Best of luck!

The std Husky ones at Lowes are what I have. They are Kevlar mat under the nylon, thats what stops the chain, it hangs up in Kevlar thread. Waist strap, thigh and calf strap. I think the last pair I got the son was under 80 bucks.
They are hot, just FYI. Once you cut enough in the summer it makes it pleasant to load the wood because you get a instant cool down

Yeah, you can look through 100s of medieval armor images, and this is a very unusual design.  Either Sir Wellhung was just showing off, or the idea was to get your opponent to not be paying attention to your Claymore sword.  And methinks this just made your main apparatus a target with ye olde battle hammer.

Just checking the board to see how you are doing, Joe, gonna take a while, listen to the Docs to keep/get as much mobility and flexibility as you can... please don't be insulted, but the addition of a three wheeler to your stable would get you in the wind a lot sooner. Why do I think you'd be lifting the inside wheel all the time? Hope the pain diminishes quickly, rehab starts as soon as possible, and life gets back to normal as quickly as possible!

Nice little cut there, at least it looks like a pretty clean cut for a chainsaw, easy to sew together. Most of the chainsaw cuts I've sen have been pretty jagged. Like most others have said, chainsaws can be notoriously dirty so go heavy on the antibiotics, but light on the pain pills. You'll hurt but it'll heal.
