Saw a Blue/silver I/S headed north on Hwy 60 near Dahlonega.

Mega bonus is that the repaving of Hwy 60 from Stonepile Gap to Woody Gap is finished.

NO MORE SLIPPERY TAR SNAKES.

Now it's smooth and black and the accident rate will rise.   Sad

Hwy 60 is now one of the top 3 roads to ride in north Georgia. I wold have listed it in the top 10 with the tar snakes.

Had lunch at TWof Suches.

Best burger in north Georgia.

One of the best overlooks in north Georgia that most riders zoom by and have no idea.

Thanks for sharing.  Looks like an  interesting area. I'm in Atlanta for work in a few weeks... looks like it's about an hour and a half drive from the city. I'd like to see something other than the city or conference centre where I'll working while I'm down there... would it be worth the drive up to that area for a first timer?

Compared to where you live  Shocked

I looked on Google Earth.

The drive north through all the traffic wouldn't be worth it. Honestly.
During rush hour it could easily take 2 or more hours to drive back into town from Dahlonega.

What dates are you here?

Excellent ride report Paul cooldude

That rte 60 looks very interesting, might have to check it out someday, next time I'm in Canton.

Looking on Google Earth satellite at ground level you can see the road snakes everywhere. Shocked

Thx for the warning ... I just hate to go to a place for the first time and not see anything of the the surrounding area. I'm there May 7 - 11.

Paul,

Good report, as always... Enjoyed the links, too... I've ridden through that area many, many times over the past forty years or so, but I still learn new things about those hills... thanks to you and some others.

I was just down there recently. I bought my dual sport from a guy who lived off of 60 between Blue Ridge and Suches.

Britman.....I bought a 2012 Suzuki DR650. It has 7k on it. I lowered it by moving the rear shock down to the lower mount position and raising the forks an inch. Also bought a  lower seat concepts pad and cover to drop it another inch and then cut the kick stand down to match the height. Really fun thumper but the small tank might be a problem. Probably get a rotopax to help with that.
