Don't threaten me with a good time

Greeneville, TN

« on: April 18, 2018, 12:04:44 PM »

Leaving from the McDonalds at the Bulls Gap exit on I-81 Friday morning April 27th at 9am.

If weather is going to be crappy, we will cancel scouting ride indefinitely. The way this year has been it wouldn't surprise me if we get hit by a category 4 freezing Sharknado in late April.

Plan to ride up to Pikeville KY via VA Route 16, I want to scuff some pegs on this ride. Not hitting as many "country roads" from last years ride. We will most likely choose a more direct path.. with a few curves of course.

Still up in the air if I'll get to go or not but its looking better if I can bend my knee it will be in the wind . Folks from Florida , South Carolina , Georgia, Louisiana, Illinois , The Great State Of Tennessee and maybe Mississippi are riding into my hometown to make this ride. I'm thinking 8 to 10 bikes ( weather pending ) . Last years ride up on the backroads was the best part of the ride IMO.  I'm hoping folks that would prefer a more spirited peg scuffing ride that plan to stay in Clinton will just get a room closer to Bulls Gap and not have to leave early or rush to make the 9:00 a.m. meet. Pretty sure the Super 8 and Quality Inn are both at the Greenville / Bulls Gap exit 23 on I-81.

He can adjust the departure time accordingly. No need to get in a rush.

Reb & Joe,

I made both rides last year... and they were both great! The scouting ride has the advantage of being smaller and more laid-back, therefore it is more to my personal liking, but... They both are very worthwhile, however, and I am, at the moment, figuring on making both again this year... We'll see...

At the moment I'm at a motel in Russellville, AL, waiting on Troutdude to come rescue ALI and me again later tonight... Looks like a universal joint this time, but... we'll have to await evaluation by the master...

I was on my way to Ft. Wayne, IN, to attend the 90th birthday party for Solo1... Too soon to call right now, but that may turn out to be a no-go for this unapologetic killer of bugs... I do have my fingers crossed, though, and I haven't given up... yet... I did call Madsixgun and give him a heads-up, just in case.

FWIW, some of those critters (bugs) are fighting back hard, and a couple of Kamikazee insects have found their mark on my face during the last couple of days!!! Another topic for which there is no answer just now... We'll just have to continue testing our wills to see who eventually gives-in...

More generally, I left the house in Florida yesterday (Tuesday morning)... I wanted to get a jump on the ride to IZ, so I left a bit earlier than I actually needed to... I still plan to do a long-cut to Roanoke by way of Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Michigan, to name some of the major destinations along the route... Have I ever mentioned that I just love my life...?

Sorry to hear of the mishap. The more I hear of this Troutdude fellow, the more I like him ! I might just have to buy him a brew or some such thing in VA. If you make it to Wayne's BD party tell him happy birthday for me.  cooldude

I will not be at this ride unfortunately for me.  However, I just received this Devil's Den pamphlet from my brother and thought those of you who do make these rides might like to see it.

Hopefully the rain will pass allowing him a dry ride over to Clinton.

If i was able to ride I'd be soaked door to door.

I don't have anything in mind this time, I fiddled with a route today  from Clinton to Pikeville hitting the Shepard's Trail on the way.

As far as Saturday, Middle Creek battlefield isn't to far away, I thought about checking that out but other than that, we witnessed most of the cool historical stuff last year.  Undecided

I believe that is true and I am not making any suggestions.  As long as you avoid the 4 lanes, I believe it is hard to go wrong in that part of the country.
