« on: April 25, 2018, 10:15:11 AM »

This past Saturday April 21st I attended the party in honor of Solo 1's 90th Birthday. It was a well attended event with family and friends from near and far on hand to  congratulate Wayne on reaching #90 and wishing him well for the future.
The VRCC was well represented by members from Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, New York, and almost Florida if Ali's drive train hadn't given up in Alabama.
These folks all came to North East Indiana with one purpose in mind, and that was to celebrate the birthday of the VRCC's oldest living member.
With that being said, (I waited until after his actual Birthday to post this)I found it disappointing that no Staff member(s)came forward on the board to wish Wayne a Happy Birthday.

Ron, you have no idea what is going on in the lives of the VRCC staff members!  Personally, I have been hospitalized since Friday evening and looking at the general board didn’t even cross my mind until now. And the first thing I see is this???  I know my husband has not only been running back and forth to the hospital, But has other issues such as work to deal with too.  I can’t speak for the other staff members, but we all do have jobs, family lives, work, etc., not to mention the planning of Inzane and everything that goes along with that.  Personally, I am offended by your statement!  If you choose to be disappointed in us, our actions, or lack of action, that is you prerogative.  I am disappointed in the fact that you chose to admonish the Staff for not posting a birthday greeting to a member that said they were leaving The board and not coming back, and assuming that the VRCC is the only thing that we have going on in our lives!  Like I said before, we all have families, Work, personal lives and other responsibilities too!

Hard to have it both ways. Leave our company because of a perceived slight and then expect the birthday well wishes. I thought Wayne was done with the VRCC. At any rate, Happy 90th and thanks for all your previous contributions to the VRCC. Hope you tear up some asphalt in the Miata this spring, top down and wind in your hair.

I would like it known that I appreciate the VRCC staff. I can’t imagine all the time and effort that goes into pulling off Inzane. I’m sorry to hear about your hospital stay motomama.

I think the OP would do well to reconsider what he said and offer an apology. I’m glad Wayne celebrated his 90th with friends. If he or anyone else gets butthurt because of some perceived slight, they need to take up some hobbies to occupy some of their time.

First off Lori that is Doug "six2go". You are thinking of Ron "EZZRIDER".

Like Doug said. The VRCC was well represented at my father's 90th party. DDT was on his way when Ali broke down in Alibama. He called with his regrets that he was unable to attend. I'm sorry we couldn't invite everyone else here, it just wasn't possible. With that said.

My father joined this club the same time I did in 99. We met up with Doug and Ron in Fort Wayne when we joined and have been friends ever since. My father and myself have made many friends in this club as a result of the fine motorcycle we call the Valkyrie. He has been to several Inzanes over the years and won the "oldest rider" title more than once. But due to years and bad knees he had to give up the Valkyrie for a lighter bike and then that one up for a Miata. He has riden most of his life. After raising four kids he got back into motorcycles in the 70s. From that point on he had at least one bike all that time up until three years ago. My father has been there done that. But after years of loyalty to this club he feels he had been cast aside because he doesn't ride anymore. I'm not saying that is the case but he feels that way. Then after the dust up with Carl over deleted posts he was done. Almost every time I see SmoknJoe at Inzanes he tells my how much he respects my dad. Makes me feel good.

Lori I know you are going through a lot with your health right now and don't have time for this board but you and Carl are not the only officers in this club. My prayers to you for a speedy recovery.........

... I found it disappointing that no Staff member(s)came forward on the board to wish Wayne a Happy Birthday.

Feel free to be disappointed if you choose that path.  I give you that right.  I don't personally respond to a lot of happy birthday posts.  We have enough active members that on any given day there are three or four of them having birthdays.

That said, Doug, you nor anyone else knows what passed between Wayne and me regarding a total of two deleted posts, two well explained deleted posts.  After the discussion, Wayne made the decision to once more announce that he was leaving the board for good.  I would have considered it fairly stupid of me to post on a board that Wayne had said he wouldn't bother with a wish for his happy birthday.

I hope Wayne did have a happy birthday.  I'm very pleased that he could have many of his friends and VRCC brothers and sisters celebrate with him.  He is held in high esteem and that's a good place to be at any age.  Ninety years is an accomplishment.  It deserves more than a couple of high fives.

The only way my birthday shows up on the board is if one of the other members sees it on Facebook and then puts a post in the forum. That's how it works.

If you were so damn disappointed, why didn't you put up a post congratulating Wayne?  Then everyone would have joined in.

Solo1 is a legend within the VRCC.  I've met him once and he was great to talk to.  I am sorry I missed his birthday but wish him all the best and many more years in good health.

I thought we could ask for a post to be deleted, I would like to ask that this one be the one deleted.

This could have been handled by a PM rather than on the board.

Thank you staff for all you do, really, thank you, and I will pray for you Motomama.

As for Wayne I hope he does have have a happy birthday and many well wishers me included.

If Solo1 had left this board, as he sead he was doing, how would he ever be able to receive our birthday wishes? Even if given in another posting. Most here loved his posts and will miss his story’s and input. Just Incase your lurking Solo 1, Happy Birthday.

Personally, I hope he doesn't see this.  I know my brother and I won't say anything to him.  I am, well, disappointed with a couple of the responses in this post.

OP, I have had the honor of meeting the VRCC staff at the last two Inzanes and I'm here to tell you that they are top notch people.  You are out of line here.

Lori, I hope you feel better soon.

I didn't know that Solo1 had left the board.  That's too bad, I always stopped to read his posts and I loved his stories.  Glad to here that he's well.

I respect him. Met him at my first CBR back in 04. He said he was leaving and deleted his account. Why would we say anything here as we took him at his word. I also respect the staff here and do not see how any of this falls on them?
I wished him a happy BD on facebook.
90 indeed is a goal I hope to make.

Wayne's reasons for participating where he wishes to are his business, and I respect his choice, however I really miss his insight right now, I'd love to hear his take on the events in the Koreas and the possibility that his war might finally officially come to an end...

I'm leery to even respond to this, but here goes.

I deeply respect Wayne.  I also respect his years of riding.  So much so, that we created a new InZane award category because of him.  I believe it was the year following Wayne giving up his Valkyrie and going to a lighter bike... there was a dispute over whether the oldest rider award meant Valkyrie rider or any rider.  We wound up creating two categories (Oldest Rider and Oldest Valkyrie Rider), because we felt Wayne deserved the honor.  In fact, even when Wayne attended InZane in the Miata, we gave him the award... and he received a standing ovation.  It was quite the tear-jerker moment.

Wayne also helped me with a project for which I needed input from a politician.  I greatly appreciated him taking time to help me out.  I was very sorry when he announced he was leaving the club.

I'm not going to make excuses for not knowing it was Wayne's birthday, I just didn't.

Anyway, Mark and Chris, please let your dad know I wish him a very happy belated birthday.

Thank you very much for that Connie. I will certainly pass on the well wishes to my father and tell him he is missed on the board. I know he was moved by the standing ovations at the rallies he attended after receiving those awards. I did not know you changed the award as a result of him. Thank you again.

He has received two other awards in his time in New Haven politics. After retirement from city council he was given the "Sagamore of the Wabash" award by the governor. This is the highest civilian award given in Indiana. At his birthday party the mayor made a proclamation making April 24th Wayne Doenges day. Both times were proud moments for us kids.

I was lurking today and saw this. I am overwhelmed with the kindness shown here, especially from Connie who I respect dearly!

Suffice to say, I have never left the VRCC, that would be impossible. Too many friends here.

However, I have joined the VRCC group on Facebook (yesterday) and had over 60 responses , all positive, in 10 minutes!  Wow!

I'll only mention that Facebook lets me post freely and fairly.

Best to all,

Wayne, Solo1

Wayne, thank you for the kind words.  In an earlier post, Mark said you felt cast aside because you don't ride anymore.  I assure you, that is not the case.  Unfortunately, a lot of really good posts don't stir up responses like political posts.  It's not just you; ride reports, for example, are read and appreciated, but don't necessarily elicit a large number of responses.  I can't speak to the deleted posts; I honestly don't know what transpired.

BTW, Facebook deletes many thousands of posts every day; often with a warning that if you continue they will shut down your page.  They employ thousands of "content reviewers;" that do nothing except review and delete content and pages.
