i didnt read all the post all the way through but there are 2 things you will have to get used to,
1) when the sun goes down it gets really really dark, no one here has yard lights..

those lights are owned by the power company and you pay a set fee each month for that light, if it is in your yard, the previous owner probably had it installed. if it is on a switch you still pay weather you use it or not. the fee is like 10 bucs a month or so.. so here is what i like to do,,wait till about 9:30pm and go out on the porch and just sit with all the lights off. I usually just sit till 10 when the news comes on.. it is so peaceful that time of night..

Last drive for my 2 private schools today.

Drove a high school to a white water rafting trip on the Chatooga River. River location used in the movie Deliverance.

Just a few miles from my new home.

Couldn't go visit the new place cause there's no room for the bus nor is there room to park the bus on the street at the end of my drive without blocking all other traffic.

It was good to drive north to Clayton and see the early morning clouds hanging in the valleys in north Georgia.

Not so good driving back into the north Atlanta metro mess and seeing the backed up rush hour traffic and f'in stop, stop, stop lights.

Counting the days. Not so many left.

I drove four hours up i-85 to Hi-Point NC the other day and turned around and did the same thing
to get back home... Greenville has a metro-mess now, and Charlotte of course does too.

Atlanta might be worse, but I hate metro mess.

Disregarding the hours spent packing prior to THE MOVE.

It took 6 hours from when the movers arrived at my house in Roswell to when they finished unloading in Clayton. That includes 2 hours 10 minutes of travel time.

I could have saved about $400 - $450 doing it myself BUT it would have involved renting a UHaul for 2 days, an appliance dolly, pads. Hiring some day laborers at both ends to load/unload.

Driving back to return the UHaul.

$ well spent.

Internet connected this morning.

Just need to find the right location for indoor TV antenna and all will be well at Casa Clayton.

That would require going through 'em first to make sure nothing personal got sent along, and if we opened 'em and started going through 'em, we'd find we "need" to keep it all afterall...

Paul, I'd of paid that job done too.  Nothing like having a couple strong backs along on that project.    Love to see a few pics when you get it set up.  

Just gave the next door neighbor lady (70) the $2 tour of my new giant Ram Promaster 2500.  Her eyes lit up at the stand up size in back, and got misty telling about her and her first husband's hippy days camping all over in a VW 40HP van.  

She asked if I had any camping gear, and I said yeah, back when I got out of the Air Force in 1992, it all got wrapped up in packing paper and boxes, where it has remained unopened in the loft of my shed for 26 years.  It's good stuff, frame packs, all lightweight gear, tent, stove, water purifier, and whatnot.  I'm not throwing or giving it away (yet).  

I'm thinking a solitary bachelor, can haul it all inside some Christmas time, and make believe it's all new presents (esp after the Alzheimers kicks in).     Wow, who bought me all this neat stuff?

Piece of advice.  Never date the neighbor lady.   It can even be worse than the co-worker.

They know where you live.  (It's hard to fake that you moved)

Now that is a really great place.  I don't blame you for getting away from the urban sprawl and traffic.

Here in New Haven, Indiana, a city of 17,000 it's a nice place and small town atmosphere but right next to Ft. Wayne 275,000.

The bad news is that NE Indiana is flat.  The good news is that, while I have the convenience of good stuff like a big hospital complex and other goodies, I can make a right turn out of my street and be in the country in five minutes with no traffic for miles (yet). No need to drive through Ft. Wayne.
