https://patch.com/new-jersey/tomsriver/terrifying-rt-37-motorcycle-crash-video-fuels-pothole-gripes

there is 2 videos, the 1st is slow motion the 2nd is full speed.

for this news article I have to say NJ is pretty slow at fixing potholes as well as just plain road maintenance. That being said however this was a case of rider beware at all times. I've told countless new riders you can't just ride your bike you have to drive it and drive it around all obstacles including potholes. Just because you've chosen a tire track in your lane doesn't mean you are committed to stay there no matter what. Yes I've hit a few potholes (and I know you can't see EVERYTHING) in my time but if that lane was so crappy, it's time to choose another, there were 2 more lanes. They got lucky and I hope they recover quick but most important they learned a lesson.

This is a 50-55MPH road which at times is very congested, they got lucky they didn't get run over from behind.

Glad she is OK. That's normal roads here in Northern Ontario.  Why did she go down? there is no reason why a pot hole should make you go down unless you do not react in the appropriate manner.  You see the tire smoke, we know what she did wrong. The only time I have had a bike down in my life was due to incorrect braking, they can get you in trouble if used the wrong way. Embarrassed

You just cant ride in a track with those things

She definitely never altered her track before hitting that big hole

Hope she makes a full recovery

I've wondered how I have held my bike up after passing thru a minefield of potholes in the past. You cant always dodge all of them, but you can try

I might be missing something, but it looks like she went down because of too much front brake.

Looked at the video a number of times.
Tough to see anything definite but this is my guess.

She hits the pot hole and when she comes out of it you can see a "puff" from the front end. I don't think it is the brakes. I think she blew a front tire. She also stood up right after hitting the pot hole and I think she stood up on the rear brake as well. Stuff coming from the rear tire as well but the first puff came from the front.
What is crazy about this is that there were no obstructions. They could obviously see the pot holes yet they drove right into them. Plenty of space to avoid them. Give each other a little more space and ride single file through that kind of stuff.

First.

2nd rider is too f'in close to the leader.

2nd.

We have no idea how much air is in the front tire which may be the culprit. May be.

3rd.

2nd rider is too f'in close to the leader.

4th.

Avoid the pot hole. Pot holes?

5th

2nd rider is too f'in close to the leader.

6th

Lead rider hits 2 potholes. Could the rider have over corrected each twitch of the handlebars making an involuntary tank slapper?

7th

2nd rider is too f'in close to the leader.

Shame the video can't be increased in size or paused.

Mebbe there was some back brake stamping.

8th

2nd rider is too f'in close to the leader.

A complete load of bollocks observation...

Why's the 2nd rider got to be so f'in close?

Perhaps the leader is riding to f'in slow?  Grin Grin  Grin
