Maybe the terms "good" and "low cost" are mutually exclusive, remains to be seen I guess. I've been with Cricket about 14 months and just today found out I've been screwed over three times(long story) without even knowing it. And, it happened in two different locations visited. So, today after a call to Cricket trying to get them to set things straight, I've decided it's time to drop them....not that they'll give a rip.

I was looking online at different services and it seems Republic is reasonably priced at $15/mo. and you're charged $5 per gigabyte for data usage. I have no idea how that would impact me, I know it wouldn't affect my wife since she's only able to take/make calls on her little flip phone and then at great effort. My Cricket bill is $70/mo. for two lines so I figure the difference in cost would grant me 4GB/mo to equal my own line cost at $35. I'm assuming 4GB is a rather large use of data, something I have little use of. Republic offers unlimited talk/test, but relies heavily on WiFi to keep costs down so I don't know if that's good or bad....or somewhere in the middle. Thoughts....suggestions?

2 unlimited talk and text on Verizon is $8x.xx dollars (including taxes) with lousy service, but the billing is accurate.

Tracfone BYOP (bring your own phone).  Not much included data but I don't use much, and it rolls over if you remember to reup every year (which you have to in order to keep your number from year to year).  They are not their own network, they use the big carriers.  I've found it to be very reliable.

Good.  Low cost.

My wife uses Republic - $20 / month unlimited talk and text, 1 GB of CELL data (you can use all the Wifi you want). Yes - if you're using Wifi, that is how it does talk /text as well. They are using 2 of the big carriers for cell service, you get a SIM that is enabled for one or the other - the GSM option didn't work well at our house, so she got changed over to CDMA. Additional cell data is available at $5 / GB (you have to change plans for the additional).

I'm using Verizon Prepaid - $50 / month for unlimited talk/text, 7 GB of rollover cell data / month. There are cheaper and more expensive options.

You can also checkout Virgin Mobile (used to be a prepaid version of Sprint PCS) - I haven't used them since we got smartphones. What you see for Sprint PCS coverage is essentially Virgin mobile coverage (or at least it was back when I used it).

I've also tried ATT GoPHone (flipphone) - worked well enough. They also have smartphones available.

edit - You also see the ads fro Consumer Cellular - check their website - phones are available at Target.

Keep in mind that you will want to get a carrier that works where you will use the phone.

We are both using Motorola Smartphones, and we are both satisfied with our service.

John I am with Net-10 at $35.00 a month I either get my card at Wally Wurld or Dollar General BUT you can purchase on line too. Might have a looksee at Consumer Cellular. Git hold of a tech geek at Wally Wurld and have him/her walk ya thru it. I'm gonna have a looksee at Consumer Cellular to git down a bit from $35.00 a month. I have NO issue with Net-10 at all. Anyone Knows of a GOOD service at &10'00  $12.00 a month I'd be in too.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

When I signed up with TotalWireless.com at Wally World it was $42 a month for unlimited talk/text and 5GB of data with another 5 GB of data for $10.

I bought the extra GB of data in my second month and have not used it all yet. The extra gb rolls over, the regular month allotment does not.

TotalWireless piggy backs on the Verizon system. However that works.
