And yet I'd still drive one happily if I had the means to buy one. Perfect, no, but progress will always have some bumps along the way. And in related news, put down your mouth fedora, those vape sticks are blowing up and killing people too... http://www.fox13news.com/news/local-news/vape-pens-cause-concern-after-deadly-fire

why? it is not progress. with fed tax dollars tesla wouldn't exist. getting the materials to make the batteries severly damages the ground/environment in other countries not counting the diesel heavy equipment needed for the mines. https://www.wired.com/2016/03/teslas-electric-cars-might-not-green-think/if u read enough u will find it is a control of the people plan. they will know exactly how much energy u are using and how far u are driving. read UN reports on restricting peoples travel.

I'm about as far from a tree hugger as you can get, as to why, because of the massive power, full torque available as soon as you tap the pedal. Silent driving. Pushing the envelope on self driving tech. Hopefully in the future the ability to use nuclear (The cleanest realistic energy source we currently have, unless someone wants to start building a Dyson Sphere.) to generate electricity that can be used to power the cars. I'm also no "Peak Oil" conspiracy theorist, but oil IS limited no matter if we'll run out in 10 years or 200, so it's a good idea to be looking for the next thing, and to start working on and perfecting it. Electric cars are still in their infancy, and yet they're able to give internal combustion vehicles a run for their money already. Imagine what they'll be capable of in 10, 20 years. Between people carrying mobile GPS transmitters, license plate cameras installed on squad cars and at fixed locations and mass facial recognition "they" don't need any help knowing where you are when, where you've been and can probably predict where you're going better than you can. They don't need Tesla to help them do that at all.

What attracts me the most in a Tesla is the idea of being off-grid: install some solar panels in your home and you never got pay for gas (or taxes on fuel).

Maybe, until they start taxing solar panels because they are losing money in utilities. Or maybe they will put mandatory gps in cars and tax you by the mile. I think San Fran was talking about this very thing.

I will be worried when they start crashing when the autonomous mode is being used correctly. Except for the 2 teens killed, they were in autonomous mode with some level of notification to put hands back on the wheel, I believe...and the 2 teens died while driving way too fast...if I could afford a Tesla X P100D with Ludicrous I would be all over it. Boeing had an Engineer Appreciation event for their employees and had Teslas to test drive...she didnt participate because she was afraid she would want one too bad

I see many car fires regularly on the interstates here around Columbus.....NONE of them were Tesla's. My buddy is a firemen who is about to retire, he has never mentioned of a single Tesla car fire, and we have had a massive Tesla dealership here since almost their beginning. I am seeing more and more of them around, love those cars.........bad ass and an engineering marvel.

There's trade offs to most things. Electric cars need better batteries, but the performance is amazing. Right now they evade paying their share in the way of gas taxes (indeed, we Federal taxpayers even chip in to help rich folks buy electric cars) but once there's enough electrics on the road maybe there will finally be corrective action on that. Eventually everyone will pay by mileage instead of gallons, anyway. Every fireman I know is close to self-pooping when it comes to facing their first really smash 'em up, full-electric car accident. That's despite all the training they're getting. Picture dropping a wrench across the terminals on a regular car battery x100 (1000?)

Here in the land of cheese the REPUBLICAN majority leader of the Assemble has said we are not using enough gas and to maintain the roads we need to raise the gas taxes. That or figure out a use tax on the mileage that we travel on our finely maintained roads. This is the same representative that wants I-94 to be a toll road through WI and supports minimum mark-up protection laws. Here is novel concept; CUT THE FAT! I am truly hoping a conservative will run against said representative in November. Sadly, he seems to have his district in his pocket (I know because I live in that district).

Let's not forget Oregon state Govt asking for volunteers to have a gizmo fitted to their vehicles .
From the Govt - "This will not be another pilot program but rather the start of an alternate method of generating fuel tax from specific vehicles to pay for Oregon highways.”

I love when things like wheel taxes and higher registration fees come up to supposedly help fix the roads. Doesn't matter how many vehicles I have, I can only drive one at a time, for the same total annual mileage. I have no problem tying fees to mileage, but only when the other ones are dropped.

I realize this is the exception. But, Alaska dropped its state income tax back in 1980. There is talk of it coming back pretty soon due to declining oil revenue though. But it does happen. They could have very easily have kept it, but back then we had a pretty good representative government.

We just built a couple robot cells for Tesla auto and a conveyor system for their solar panel shingles in new york. Everyone that was at our facility working for tesla said they had met Elon and never want to again. Apparently he is a big jerk. They said one time a project was 2 days behind schedule and he walked in and fired everyone that had anything to do with it. They said if he gives a deadline it better be done 2 weeks early. But I have to say, the ones that came to our facility were some of the smartest people I have ever came across.
