Carburetor issues 1997 Valkyrie

Hey there Buddruffin, the guys on here can save you some $ if you tell what your issues are? But first I have to ask if you have any mechanical ability to do this work on your own? Just about most small repairs and maintenance can be completed with the tools that came with the bike. Good luck,

 Thank you for your reply, last spring 2017 I purchased a 1997 Valkyrie, this was not my first motorcycle but it was my first Valkyrie.  I have been riding motorcycles since I was 11 years old. Back in 63, I Started out with an old Harley Davidson trike 1950 something,  suicide shifter on the left-hand side, old police issue. Through the years I've had the Honda 305 Superhawk scrambler,  750 triumph (That I had to get use of shifting with my right foot and breaking with my left foot, that was almost suicide!), Honda CB350,  purchased a new 1978 Honda 750 super sport. And Many other bikes in between, just to give you a little bit of history......  many other bikes in between, just to give you a little bit of history. I have loved Honda Valkyries,  every since I saw the first one. Gold wings are OK but for some reason I don't like all the extra Plastic skin..... Now for the carburetor issue, when I purchased this Valkyrie the weather was kind of cool, about 40° outside.  when the owner cranked the bike up he had to choke it, and after he took the choke off it seem like the bike was running kind of rich. I could smell a little raw fuel, but after the engine warmed up and ran fine.  I could smell a little raw fuel, but after the engine warmed up and ran ok! Not like I thought it should have, but OK. after bringing the bike home,  I went through all the fluids, changing them and new filters. The weather was much warmer during the summer of 17 and it seem like the bike was running great but I still could smell a little raw fuel  occasionally. During the winter of 17  The battery on a maintainer, tried to start it during 40° weather and the bike would not start, not getting fuel  into all of the carburetors. Took the tank off but was afraid to tackle the carburetors because I was not familiar with them.  I became frustrated dealing with that issue, so I went out and bought a new 2015 Honda Valkyrie over in Canton Georgia....

I still had the 97 on the motorcycle lift and that's when I appealed to this form for help and after receiving your reply that  caused  me too  go deeper into the bike.  I went to YouTube and found this link which helped solve the problem. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eDLTpQCTBsc&index=3&list=FLi5m8yoIajJPkrp96zH8-OQ&t=115s   Also I found out that the petcock! Was damaged after replacing it as well as going through all of my carburetors, the 97 is back on the road again and I'm enjoying it as well as the 2015.  So again I thank you for your encouragement, which gave me a push to explore the mechanics of the 1997 Valkyrie. I do not worry about the gas fumes too much.  Lets face it, you are sitting atop a 1500 cc SIX cylinder engine!!  That is 250 cc's each cylinder.

It will create some fumes on occasion.....

Sort of like a Ferrari owner, complaining about smelling some fuel!
