Obviously wouldn't have happened had they been riding with a non-motorcycle specific tire on the rear.  Those motorcycle tires on big cruisers can be dangerous!   Wink

If I read the article correctly out of many, many thousands or millions of tires manufactured there have been a handful of incidents that may or may not be the tire's fault.  The author of the article wants Goodyear to recall all of those many thousands or millions of tires?

Where do we find this crap?

Most, if not all, motorcyclist fatalities due to sudden tire failure could be eliminated if all motorcycles were equipped with governors and restricted to roads with a speed limit of not more than 30 MPH.  What price should we put on a life?  If just one life could be saved, wouldn't it be worth it?

just last week i posted the same info.

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,101072.0.html

i let a  friend of mine know who rides a HD and he said he'd pass the info along to another group of friends who ride.

this is the type of info no (matter what we think of the HD brand) that should be passed along to others, safety first. imagine having read this and not mentioning it to someone you know and then a bad thing happens.

This is why I use Cobras on the valk and Michelin RP4 GT's on the concours. These tires are made for the heavier bikes with stiffer (stronger) sidewalls. I also believe that underinflation could be part of this story. A properly inflated tire runs cooler and doesn't fail.

Too many variables to blame the tire. manufacture date, tire pressures, tire condition, road condition, road hazards, riding style, etc, etc.
has anyone seen if more tan 5 people have died or 22 injured that had a Shinko, Yokohama, Firestone, etc on the back of their bike since 2006???

How long have these been in production? Harleys are not known for their high mileage. Could easily be an age related matter.
