Kilauea, the volcano in Hawaii that began erupting almost three weeks ago, exploded again Monday evening and the lava flow from one of its fissures was threatening a geothermal plant, authorities said.

https://www.yahoo.com/gma/volcanic-eruption-hawaii-spews-more-lava-ocean-triggering-123903476--abc-news-topstories.html

parts of Hawaii permanently changing until the next time a volcano decides to wake up.

the gods seem pissed about something for this to be going on this long, i wonder when the last time a virgin was sacrificed on that island...they could be waaay over due.

My wife has a childhood classmate that live on the big island.  She lives about 90 miles from the volcano.  She indicates the media is way overblowing  the event.  It is a significant eruption.  There have been a small number of residences destroyed but she says on her end of the island is business as usual.  No breathing masks or danger to all the islands as some media are reporting.

I don't doubt the power plant is in danger.  I was reading an article that was bemoaning the damage to Hawaaii's tourist industry.  I thought it was ironic they were reporting the damage while continuing to participate in its cause.  Interestingly halfway through the reading they pointed out that tourism to the National Park had dramatically increased twelve years ago after the previous eruption.

Lori and I are planning to be in the islands in July.  Unfortunately we had not planned to be on the big island.

My wife's cousin is on the big Island as well and lives in Kona. She said very little effects are noted there and the media is making more of this than what it is.
