Came to the hospital early to give the blood sample again. Now I have a tad over an hour before I see the doctor and find out if I am making progress. Tuesday next week is still chemo and 6 June is decision day for INZANE. I'm certainly ready for some good news.

More in a couple hours  :D

Thinking of you Chris, I lost my brother a few years ago, be srtong.

Sure hope it works out.  :cooldude: I was hoping in a couple weeks to take stock of the man who tangled with a cement mixer, a 357, and this blood issue. (You got this)  :cooldude:

Here I sit all broken-hearted.
Tried to....

Oh wait, wrong thread.

Sure hope everything works out and you're able to make it!

Thanks everyone!  So, the news is good and my Dr is really cool.  Last week platelets were at 8K and that is at the level of needing a transfusion.  She didn't do the transfusion because she thought they would go up on their own.  Today they are 17K and she is confident they will be over 20K by next Tuesday.

Here's the cool part.  My Dr said any "normal" patient with a platelet count of 8 and then 17 would look terrible and feel terrible and would most certainly not be cleared for a motorcycle trip.  The "normal" safety threshold is 50K.  But, she said I look so healthy and have enough of my normal life going on to warrant a different safety threshold.  She said she would be comfortable with me going on the trip to INZANE as long as the platelets are at 20K and it sure looks like they will be by 8 June.

Here's the really cool part.  And I was very surprised!!  She said if the day before the trip the platelets are just under the 20K level she would give me a platelet transfusion for the trip.

So, it looks VERY good for being at INZANE!  :cooldude: :D

Glad you got some positive news. I don't know if prayers and good karma thoughts really ever work, but they sure as hell can't hurt. You've got a lot of support behind you. Keep the positive news coming.

Jeff that's great news :cooldude:

LOL!  If Hell is sure for you then your prayers won't help.  Perhaps good karma does.  I wonder where does that come from?

Glad you're getting better, Jeff.   :cooldude:

No problem that's how I took it the first time.  No offense taken  :)

Not really offended.  Just making fun of the all to often phrase, sure as hell.

 I know that prayers do work. You made my day Jeff with the call today. I can't help but to be so much more excited now that your doc gave you the Green Light. It will be a great ride up, around Roanoke, back to Western NC and home. We will be talking over these next few rainy days. Continued prayers my friend.  :coolsmiley:

Here's the really cool part.  And I was very surprised!!  She said if the day before the trip the platelets are just under the 20K level she would give me a platelet transfusion for the trip.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I asked about transfusion earlier!!

To quote a line or two from Apollo 13.  This trip will be one for the history books for sure. Goes to show you that you never know what will transpire to get you home (or to IZ).

As I said before, the dates have all lined up with the critical times of planning for this trip and I don't see it as any coincidence. God answered our prayers but took it to the bitter end.

The game changer was having the safety threshold moved to 20. And for my Dr that really doesn't like motorcycles, that's near a miracle in itself

Chrisj CMA

It's the day after three days of chemo and no negative side effects. That's a good sign it means the platelets haven't been depleted too bad by the treatment. Now I have a week for them to rebound so I'm strong enough for the trip. Blood test is Thursday and scheduled departure is Friday.

I feel good about seeing y'all next week.

Truly amazing!  I have not met many on this board. Some, but not in a long while anyway.  We have our differences and Lord knows I have butted heads a little with a couple of youse guys in the past.

BUT

I feel like with any family, when the chips are down we pull together.  I'm the kind of person that tends to have few but close friends.  I consider myself blessed if there is more than one person that I can actually spend time with that is a true friend.  Lately I have felt many of you to be great friends.  There's no way to express how important that is to me.

You all will never know how much the prayers, well wishes and encouragement has meant to me through this.  I'm confident I will make the trip, and I want to meet as many as possible to put faces to handles.

Last night I started assembling the tools and gear for the trip and it was the first time I actually felt like it was going to happen!

Can't wait to see you in Roanoke  :D

It's going to happen.  :cooldude: I just know it. Ride safe  :cooldude:

This is so great Jeff, I will pray for a safe round trip ride for you and for your continual healing and strength and I will have 1600 miles to do it in.
This will be your greatest ride yet!

Chrisj CMA

Ok, well the original agreement with my Dr was that if my platelets were close to 20 she would clear me to ride even if she had to give me some IV.

I was bummed, took the test today.  Platelets were 8.  Crap!  So have to get a transfusion.  So they order my bag of platelets.  I was actually turning on my phone to tell y'all the bad news.

Then my Dr surprised me.  She ordered two bags and cleared me to ride.

Wow!

Just got done packing.  All that's left is to check the air in the tires.

See ya Sunday  :cooldude:
