Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: May 30, 2018, 05:36:46 AM »

We departed Pikeville, KY, and our next known destination was Roanoke, VA. Since we had the better part of two weeks to get there… it just seemed so natural that we would head west to get east… again… We do seem to do this a lot! This time it even seemed logical, too, as some of you may have noticed… there was more than a little bit of precipitation going in the eastern half of our nation.

We rode through Louisville, KY, then up into Indiana, and northwestward to Jacksonville, Il. Not quite far enough, it turned out, as sprinkles once again overtook us… during the second night there. We’d actually laid over a day so ALI’s wimpy companion could recover from the heat and humidity that had exceeded my expectations, and from the monotony of freeway travel all the way there. It also served as a laundry opportunity… and naps! Yep, I got all caught-up on that deficiency!

Shortly we’ll be headed out again… and we’ll pass through Hannibal, MO, in a couple of hours. As I’ve done all of the other times we’ve passed this way, I’ll reflect upon the great one, Mark Twain, and how we’ll be in the wake of one of the best at articulating life on the ‘Big Muddy’ and life generally. His observations and amazing insights cross the generations and decades of time and really hit home, at least for this curious student of the human condition…

I’m not sure just now where we might end up this evening, or where exactly we might shoot for to make the turn towards southwestern Virginia… Something will spark some interest, though, as it always does, and we’ll adjust our route ‘on the fly’ and… you know… It could be Fargo, ND, where we do the deed, but more than likely something else will divert us, and… it doesn’t really matter, of course, we’re just out and about doing what we do… and that usually defies description or specificity! I wouldn’t want it any other way…

Be warned about Hannibal, stop on the yellow light. If you are in the intersection at red, all the camera flashing is a bit distracting. Cheesy

Sorcerer,

Once again I rode right through Hannibal without stopping... I should, and I will one of these days... just not this day. I awoke wide-eyed and ready to go at 2am! I tried to go back to sleep, but that was not in the cards... I fooled around until after daylight and breakfast, then we left and made it about 200 miles before... yep, I got drowsy! I got another room early, and now I'm struggling to NOT take a nap! I want to sleep through the night tonight, so... Thanks for the heads up on the lights/cameras! Lots of towns have installed 'revenue enhancers' nowadays, and a timely reminder is always appreciated!!!

Wiz,

You know me so well now! Yep, I'm in Missouri at present, and at the moment I think I'm heading over into Nebraska before turning north... maybe... Who knows? I surely don't!   Grin  Not the most direct route to Roanoke from Pikeville, I know, but this is what we do and how we do it! Who needs a GPS anyway...? I got the front wheel!!!

DDT

Dennis,

Yeah, there's no denying my guilt on those charges! Dang, I do love it so, and I ain't got nary an inclination to alter my MO... I wonder where I might lay my head tomorrow night...? Of course, that also depends upon being able to straighten out my sleep cycle! Sleeping during the day has caught up with me now, so corrective action is definitely required... Not an ideal situation when one usually doesn't know where he's headed or when he might arrive!

Sounds about right Bruce.  Go west young man, you'll eventually wind up in the east Grin  It was great seeing you at Pikeville.  It was a good ride in spite of the weather systems nagging at us. Be safe out there and we will see ya down the road somewhere.  cooldude

Bruce,
I don't think anyone that knows you would expect your front wheel to be pointed towards a planned destination point when you start out.  That destination might be in mind but you always seem to have a wonderfully fluid path for getting there..........or not.  No matter where you end up, it always seems to be where you should be at that time.  I love it!

I would actually be kind of worried that something was wrong. Then I'd get on the the phone and find out what was up.  Smiley
