One of our favorite Restaurant's around Roanoke is The Homeplace Restaurant.  We've had our GWRRA District Rally in Roanoke for several years and this is the one place we take a group each year.  You select whether you want 2 or 3 meats and they bring everything including all sides to the table and keep bringing bowls until you are done.  It is an old farmhouse made into a restaurant and is out of town a ways.  Really nice ride to it and back through the hills approximately 13 miles from the hotel.

We really like the Olde Liberty Station Restaurant in Bedford, VA.  This is 35 miles from the hotel and has a Railroad theme.

Great Food in Downtown Bedford
While the newly restored station house has a rich and colorful background, its present-day use as a full service restaurant showcases the history of the building and of the Bedford, Virginia area. Our menu of delicious American fare, created with the best ingredients available, will satisfy the appetite of travelers and locals alike.

Best of all, our guests can complete their meal with a slice of Harry's Famous Cheesecake - in any of our tempting flavors that will leave you wanting more!

Restaurant we would go to for breakfast, but serves good good all day, is called The Swinging Bridge Restaurant, we just call it The Paint Bank.  Its 40-50 miles from the hotel through the mountains depending on your route.  Good food, nice old fashion store and a great ride.

16071 Paint Bank Rd
Paint Bank, Virginia 24131
(540) 897-5099

Intro from their web page:

Welcome to The Swinging Bridge Restaurant!
WITHIN THE PAINT BANK GENERAL STORE
Celebrating over 10 years of bringing you homestyle good cookin' with a Southern gourmet flare. What! You haven't tried us yet? Our unique dining experience is well worth the drive over the mountains and through the woods.

The Swinging Bridge offers a cozy setting in front of a raging fire (seasonal, of course!), with décor that reflects the beauty and splendor of nature, brought indoors. Sit down, relax, and have something good to eat!

Our Menu features a variety of buffalo dishes, as well as delicious, mouth-watering BBQ ribs and chicken, perfectly prepared on our own locomotive smoker. For the traditionalists, we have Sunday Dinner - Pan Fried Chicken - and many other family favorites, like our Blue Plate Specials (Fridays) and Prime Rib Saturdays.

When the weather is fine, you can dine on our screened-in back porch that overlooks historic [Tingler's Mill]. The Big Wheel's turnin' and the mill is open for visitors. If there is a short wait for your table, enjoy some outdoor game time with horseshoes or corn hole, and work up your appetite!

On most Thursday nights during High Season, local musicians play great country and bluegrass music for your entertainment. After your meal, go upstairs to stroll across our real swinging bridge, check out our wildlife display and visit the Paint Bank General Store & Gift Shop.

I have no idea how close this grot hole is to Inzane ground zero.

DON'T CROSS IT'S THRESHOLD.

About 5 miles...

:( Well shoot! I was really looking forward to eating at The Homeplace Restaurant while in Roanoke but not going to happen. We arrive Sunday for the early meet & greet cookout and will be leaving on Wednesday.  :-\  Homeplace closes at 6pm on Sundays and doesn't open again until Thursday.  :o
Son of a gun!  Thanks for the list Dan :coolsmiley:

Yes we have always gone on a Thursday or Friday.  One time in the fall we made the mistake of going on a Saturday afternoon and did not realize it was just after the Virginia Tech football game had completed.  We ended up with a 2 hour wait.

There are many good restaurants in Roanoke:

https://www.downtownroanoke.org/explore/dining/restaurants

Some of my personal recommendations are:

Athens Corner Grill (Greek)
https://www.downtownroanoke.org/go/athens-corner-grill

Awful Arthurs seafood
https://www.downtownroanoke.org/go/awful-arthurs-seafood-company

Corned Beef and Co
https://www.downtownroanoke.org/go/corned-beef-and-company-inc

The Quarter (Cajun)
https://www.downtownroanoke.org/go/the-quarter

This is a local landmark that should be experienced by everyone at least once:

Texas Tavern
https://www.downtownroanoke.org/go/texas-tavern-inc

Be sure to order a Double Cheesy Western with.

I went here for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it:

Ballast Point Brewery
https://www.ballastpoint.com/location/ballast-point-daleville/

This is a great place for dinner and a few brews.

Maybe we could arrange some kind of shuttle ride so that some of their wonderful adult libations could be enjoyed.

I ate at this place for the first time yesterday and the food was wonderful.

Fatback's Soul Shack
https://www.facebook.com/fatbacksoulshack/

It's in Christiansburg (I-81 MM 118) but if you're up that way and you're hungry stop in.

For BBQ.........

In Roanoke:

Mission BBQ
https://mission-bbq.com/our-story

In Buena Vista or Moneta:

JJ's Meat Shak
http://www.jjsmeatshak.com/

And if any of your rides take you along Hwy 151 near Afton, VA (and they should) Check out Paulie's Pig Out:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Paulies-Pig-Out/159899790704364

This is one of those places that doesn't look like much from the outside, but you will be pleasantly surprised!

And for those that take a ride down to Tazewell, VA to ride the Back of The Dragon there's Cuz's:

http://www.cuzs.com/#restaurant

Come hungry their Smoked Prime Rib is to die for, but it isn't for the faint of heart!

Hey rnfwp!

If you're in Greenville, the best shawarma place I know of is The Pita House on 291 across
from Greenville Tech... packed every day!

Chicken Shawarma Over Hummus is the plate I get, it has a cucumber and tomato salad on it that
they call tahini salad that is the best stuff in the universe.

I think I just gained 10 pounds from reading this thread!

But... Depending on what's going on, Kali and I are down for a Shawarma run!

Mike, Pita House is one of me and wife's favorite places... we go there a couple of times a month. The falafels, hummus, kabobs and homemade lemonade are also good. oh, don't forget the deserts in the counter.
