Waterpump Replacement

I'm about to replace my water pump. Are there any precautions when doing this? Just double checking. I've read the instructions in the Oem manual.

Drain the engine oil.

Go for a short ride so the engine is warm before you try to break them little bolts free.  Also give a few taps on head of each bolt with a hammer (I place the socket and extension on each bolt and tap on that)

Btw, there was a nationwide back order on Valk waterpumps but ended this month theoretically. Don't know when it began. I had to pay more from an Ebay vendor. $170 vs. oem websites $140. Didn't want that pump gone if the backorder lasted longer.

For the record, I was glad I posted this post in 2018. and inquired in advance. Whew. Who sez oil and water don't mix.

Honda makes a service manual for each motorcycle
model they have. And they also have a "Common Service Manual".

I just went and looked in the Cooling System
section of the Valkyrie service manual. On page
6-4 where they're talking about how to
interpret hydrometer readings of your radiator
fluid: "Refer to th Cooling System section of the
Common Service Manual for coolant gravity specifications."

Anywho... they don't mention draining the oil in the
Valkyrie specific service manual, but in the Cooling
System section of the Common Service Manual it
sez: "

WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT

Drain the engine oil and coolent.

When I changed mine it cost me 50 cents for the C clamp on the top gooseneck to stop the leak. Make sure its tight.
