;) Just as it states, our trek to GZ Roanoke.
Day1: Friday 8th: Well we started with 4 riders,1= Pensacola; 2= Milton and 1=Crestview.  :cooldude:
We all met for breakfast, RTE some 30-40 miles into the InZane trek. After taking a commemorative pic of the four of us we load up and are ready to leave the parking lot.  :o YIKES, number 4 in line our Pensacola friend thought the 3rd in line was pulling out onto the road but he wasn't.  :-\ So he hit the front breaks to avoid rear ending his friend and subsequently laid his bike down on the right side only to follow it down and ended up breaking his thumb.  :-X He wanted to still make the trek but Jeff convinced him to stay and take care of the thumb, broken & dislocated.  :-[ Sorry for that.... The ride up from there was awesome. A back roads ride thru Alabama and into Rome, GA. We got in at 5 eastern, checked in to a hotel and proceeded to have an really good steak dinner. Jeff, Christj; VTX Bill and I all raised a glass to Earl.
Day2: We got up had a quick McD's breakfast and got on the road to Boone, NC. Another terrific ride I must say. Mostly 2 lane and really seeing the twisties we were talking about for months!  ;)
We rented a cabin that would sleep 8 for $160 but splint 3 ways was perfect. A nice cabin with a great wrap around deck & right below was at the starting entering in to Boone. After cleaning up we proceeded to have some Delious BBQ. We had the brisket & ribs and we all agreed they were some of the best we had ever tried!  :D Crazy Good! As we walked out to our bikes, almost dark now, almost half the kitchen crew and the best looken waitress were all admiring our machines. Of course Jeff's bike the waitress  really liked the best!  :-* We enjoyed that place and all said we'd be back!
Day3: Leaving out Sunday from Boone to GZ Roanoke we were in no rush but we were watching the weather because of possible showers later around GZ. We were only 200 miles out so we agreed more back roads up and after the first 15-20 miles on 221 the gravel was almost non-exsistant  :o
And the rest of the ride was just fine with great turns and maneuvers, enjoying our skills on the best bikes on the road! Really a fun 3 days already.
I'm so glad my friend Bill was able to come to his second InZane with me and most of all my friend Jeff, who I wasn't so sure he'd be cleared to go by his Doc but he was!

Nice report of course except the broken thumb part.  Hope you heal well Earl.  It probably hurt like the dickens the next couple of days.  Thanks for taking the time to post about your travels.  Add to it when you get the chance.

Pappy!

Been waiting to hear some stories like this! Thanks! Sure hope Earl's thumb gets better quickly.

Sounds like you guys are having it your way :cooldude: sorry Earl broke his thumb and had to cancel so soon into the trip. I can relate to the way it happened, I think we all have had close calls the same way. :-X. Hope the rest of your trip goes as well as the first 3 days.

Post pictures if possible :coolsmiley:

Yes Earl, I hope your thumb heels quickly.  Yes, we need pictures.  I was hoping to get to go to my first InZane, but an accident in November kept me from making it.  I need inspiration to keep getting better so I can ride again.  lol  I hope all that went have tons of fun and no more accidents.

Great Report , Glad u guy's had a Great trip. We wound up staying in NC for the entire week and also had an Awesome time. We had perfect weather and did not hit any rain the entire time there.

We had Sherry spoil us with home cooking the entire time. I am happy to be home, but miss the Mountains when i'm here in FL. Going to start planning our trip to New England for sep/oct with another stop off in NC before heading Northeast.  :cooldude:

:cooldude: Thank you Jeff, you da'man!   ;) For those of you looking and seeing a familiar face from your South FL area, Jeff McKay met up with us to go on several rides too. We took a ride to Buchanan, VA. The pic is of Jeff, Jeff, Bill & myself. We met a volunteer who helps with this 1914 Theater. He took Jeff M. and I on a tour of the Old movie theater. It has been updated and shows movies to the locals! He turned on the lights for us and took our picture, great local guy!  :coolsmiley:

Sure was a good time in Roanoke with all the Florida folks and everyone else that showed up.

Kieth was acting guide with the Fl. group for a few great rides on Mon. and Tue. I'll let him tell of the conversation with a local gal who was leading us for a short time.

I think it was Wed. morning when a local guy ( Mark ) led a 220 mile ride with stops at Andrew Jackson's tomb, Washington and Lee University, a waterfall, covered bridge and even a little dirt riding and hill climb after the guided ride took a wrong turn. Left GZ at 10:00 and got back at 7:30 in the evening. May have been the most fun ride of the trip.

The VRCC was invited to visit the Museum of Transportation in downtown Roanoke and had a good time there.

The weather cooperated for the most part. And the roads were hilly and twisty as expected.  I was able to stay at GZ for an extra day and did a little more riding before packing it up on Friday night.

Blazed south on Saturday and Sunday getting home around 1:00 PM and jumped on the mower before it rained. Not the original plan of a three day lazy ride back, but I was ready to get home.

Had a great time.

Jeff=Flsix, it was a great trip for us all too. I'm glad we all caught up for a few rides.  8)
Oh Yes, that little ol' lady that wanted us to follow her was a hoot! :D I knew she was a good sport after she suggested we follow her and I said well don't  lose us; chuckling ;D then she said " you better keep up"! :o  I asked her if she was a school teacher, no she said she was a retired social worker and widow. So we followed her and when she made her turn to the left I kept straight beeping and waving bye to thank her for leading us towards Callaway. Well I was suppose to follow her a little further but the rain was in that direction so I cut that part short to head the opposite direction of the rain. Unbenost to me she wasn't going to let it end there. She slammed on her breaks and turned around and chased after us. I had NO idea that she was after us (me) to find out why I broke off the ride with her. Guys this road she caught us on was a curvy, dbl yellow line with dips in the road. I was watching for cars ahead let alone coming up from behind. She flew around the guys (3) of them, caught me and I still had no idea who it was until she put her window down yelling at me  :tickedoff: " what are you doing? You weren't suppose to go straight back there!" She had me hit my breaks pretty good and pull in to a church driveway. She jumps out of her small SUV yelling at me again,  :tickedoff: What are you doing, Your going the wrong way! She said she was afraid we would get lost. I explained the rain was over Callaway and I didn't want to get wet. She was really worried for us. I assured her everything was fine and she did a Great job leading us and she was a challenge to keep up with too. I had to ask her what her name was casue I was so impressed with her thoughfullness and driving skills.  :2funny: We all had a good laugh about Ms. Lane.
Jeff M. hanging out at the museum with you and the knowledge you shared with me about the different trains was impressive. It really made the museum ride enjoyable. Dinner afterwords with Jeff=ChrisJ; you and Bill from Philly, new Valk rider was enjoyable as well. I hope to make next year if it is as close. We, VTX Bill and myself did close to 2,200 miles total. We got home safely too!   :coolsmiley:
