I had it's cousin the 1300 tourer for to short a time last year ( great deal on a Vic Cross Country came up ).  The Stryker was on my radar when looking to add a bike this past winter.  The 1300 has a very good engine.  The only flaw is the low speed jerkiness due to EPA compliance.  This is effectively taken care of by an Ivan's Flash of the ECU.  It also responds quite well to aftermarket air intake and many riders like the cobra slip ons.  This bike has a very high dependability rating as does most everything Yamaha makes.   I would say if your son likes the looks and the seating position he will not be disappointed.  A young gentleman showed up with one to our Darke County ride for cancer that I help to organize this past May, and it got a lot of looks.

Thanks Alpha cooldude

I forgot to mention.  Unlike dang near every raked out bike it gets high praise for it's cornering abilities.
