Moving to South Florida

I'm moving to Boynton Beach from NYC on July 31st and am wondering and hoping there are fellow Valkers near my new home to share a ride or two or to help with wrenching.

I've an immaculate (to me at least) 1999 standard with much accessories added over the years.

Looking forward to hearing from my new neighbors!

I am moving from the south shore of Long Island in the Five Towns area.

Question: what type of SunPass shall I purchase?  The stick-on or transponder?  Also, where on the windshield (or bike) shall I place it?

Any recommendations re bike insurance will be most appreciated.

Transponder....so you can move it from vehicle to vehicle. In the car/truck, stick it in the center of the windshield about halfway down from the top. On the bike, I stick mine in the same general location....assuming you have a windshield. I try to keep around $30 or more in the account, but don't have it on automatic refill via a credit card. If you use it a lot, then auto-refill might be a better solution. As for insurance, Florida doesn't require it on motorcycles but obviously not recommended. I've used Markel for a number of years, carry full coverage plus extra for "my extras" and do so for well under $200/year. Each year without a claim, your deductible goes down a bit. Mine has been at zero for some time even though the policy shows a deductible.

A humorous tidbit; I once called them asking about the zero deductible and the gal on the phone laughed and said they do that for all the good looking policy holders. I said she had never met me, to which she answered "you ride, that makes you good looking."  I suggested she hasn't seen some of the guys I ride with....it would change her mind!    We both has a good chuckle over it then she added "now if you were a pilot AND a motorycle rider....." to which I suggested I belong in Hollywood along with a couple others in our group. Don't remember if I ever got my question answered!

Welcome from clermont Florida greater Orlando area, weather u get a sun pass sticker or transponder you gonna register it with them and you now have an account, a sticker is 5 dollars and u can get it at gas stations and just call and activate it whereas the transponder is 20 unless it went up and u will get it in the mail. All u need is call in your sticker number and add all your vehicles to the account by plate set it on auto refill with  a limit as little as $10 and u never have to switch any transponder or anything, all by plate and register to the one account. As far as insurance it's optional therefore use your own judgement

On John's advice I looked up Markel and also went with them. Good insurance and good people.
Transponder, so it can be moved. Currently mine has been stolen by Lesa's grand daughter....so what's new.

I dont have any transponder or sticker on the bike. I just called and added the bike to my account, and they just charge the plate.

On insurance, I found Progressive through Leslie Kay's Agency to be my lowest cost. For the transponder Nick (Bronxboy) is spot on.

In my search for insurance I found out (to my utmost surprise!) that Florida does not require motorcycle insurance! Wow!  That is why every insurance option is elective and you can then pay for whatever you select.  I mirrored the coverage that I had in NY and went with Progressive.

No need for a transponder or sticker once you attach a vehicle to an account?  So in theory, as long as there's an active account there's no need for stickers nor transponders, if so why bother?

From the signs I've seen, the pay by plate is a little more expensive (25 cents). Depends on how much you use the toll roads. I'm changing over to a Sun Pass  from E pass. Better discount for more usage.
