Last fall I went with a Suzuki m109r over my lil Honda cb500x instead of going with a valk..

With some recent back issues, I simply can't ride in the clam position for any length of time. I know there are solutions or this, but instead of spending money to make the m109 into something it's not, (a good long distance machine), I'm going to pick up a Valkyrie.

Anything I should look out for on particular when looking? I'll test ride of course, but I've only ever test ridden one and don't have as much experience as you folks.

Thanks for replies!

Some stuff people add is just bling. Other stuff is real useful. Besides looking for one that is
"not a beater", look for one with a good seat and hardbags and a Windshield...

Thanks for the replies! I'm located in WI, and not looking to pick one up until next spring.

This isn't my first rodeo looking at used bikes, but wanted to know if there were any known issues that neglect can cause for these besides the usual shaft drive maintenance.

I'll probably end up traveling 100 plus miles to find a decent one.

Go to the home page and select "shop talk" (if you haven't already). Good info there plus the guys here are full of info plus other things. Good luck!

Shoptalk has the list of known problems.

Read up on hydro lock and rear end service. I feel these are the 2 most important things to know about and to do to your new to you Valkyrie.

There's more, like valve stems (but OEM steams should be replaced on every install), but just go back about 1 year in the 1500 Tech section and start reading.

I have found that in my little corner of the cheese republic that the best time to buy is just before the snow falls. Then you have all winter to make any changes, improvements or improvisations you want before actual riding really begins. Also many will not wish to store a ride they may be planning to part with in the spring and play "Let's Make A Deal". I know I've had a few rides I picked up in the Fall, worked on over Winter, and parted ways with in the Spring.

The OEM fuel delivery system is always suspect on our ladies at this point like any soft parts that might be original, i.e. vacuum lines. That would be why I no longer have vacuum lines on either of my large ladies.
