Some of us really do not mind the political post in the general board.
Some of us find them funny, sad, intelligent, silly, stupid, and sometimes outrageous.
Much like many of our politicians, there may a cause and effect situation happening.

Some of us would like for the post to be as accurate as possible, but when it is not it is just a poor
reflection on the poster. And usually someone will post the other side.

Yes it would be nice if folks would not get personal or take it personal, but they will, some just cannot help it. Yes it sometime gets out of hand and we wish it would not, but that is the nature of the political beast.

We realize that it can be a challenge for the moderators, but that is what they get paid for or volunteered for.

If you cannot stand a little razing and laughter or are a little thin skinned it may be best to avoid political post. And that is ok, there are many other great post in all the forums, enjoy them.

If you mis-state something (by accident or on purpose) expect to be called on it. If so then either fess up or shut up, as doubling down just digs the hole deeper and causes more laughter and razing.

Be aware there are more that 2 political sides, progressive, liberal, conservative, constitutional, socialist, communist and mixes of all the above. And some will post something just to get a rise out of another side. And some will shadow post, something they do not adher to just to start an argument.

Often comments are left to incite, not the illuminate, and many will take the bait. And that is OK,
have fun with it.

It is OK, thank goodness no political post in the general forum is going to become policy or even slow down the spinning of the world. Take the post for what they are, words of someones opinion usually.

That opinion may be based on fact, falsehood, misunderstandings, fake news, or just an opinion formed
by someone with a first grade or doctorate education or anywhere in between. And education is no guarantee of accuracy or understanding or honesty.

Do us a favor and do not stop the political post, if you do we will miss a lot of laughter and will have
less to make snide remarks about. We will have less opportunity for tongue in cheek comments and the entertainment value of the site will be impacted.

This post was the product of one individual and does not have the approval of the VRCC or any VRCC members (except the author). But it is how one member feels about the political post issue.

Feel free to add your comments.

I do think that it's a shame that some people get so bent out of shape over political posts.

I do think that it's wrong to resort to name calling in a post (although there may have been a guy named Strong Eagle and a couple of others that have gotten me to cross that line a time or two).  Lips Sealed

To the people that feel that NO Political posts should be allowed, I would say to you that I am on some other forums where they are not.

And I will tell you that those forums are DEAD !

I visit them an average of less than once a month and many times there have only been one or two new posts since the last time I was there.

I do believe that the lack of limits on discussion topics is one of the things that makes this board a family.

To the people that get totally bent out of shape when participating in a political topic, I say STOP !

Don't stop posting but stop getting so bent out of shape.

Look for some middle ground whenever possible.

You may find that you have more in common with the other person than you think.

The pendulum is constantly swinging.

I consider myself to be moderately conservative.

My views have changed little since the 1990's, back then I was considered to be a Liberal.

By today's standard my views are considered by many to be ultra conservative.

Again, they have changed little since the 1990's when I voted for Bill Clinton (twice).

To the few that are only posting political stuff to "Stir the Pot", STOP IT ! and if you can't GO AWAY !

There is NO useful purpose in just trying to start an argument.

Intelligent men seek intelligent conversation, on serious subjects.  Especially those subjects that affect our beloved country and constitutional republic.  The same one many of us served in uniform, and took an oath to support and defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic.  It's that simple.

I enjoy political posts, when they are fact based and demonstrate logic and common sense, and often show our public servants and G's are not doing the job they should be.  (Sadly, quite often).  I enjoy the different takes and perspectives that are often provided.  And I learn things, and I like that too.

I don't enjoy them getting personal.  Give silence to those that deserve it.  Arguing with them, gives them attention, and empowerment.  So don't do it.

When political posts get personal, I am reminded of the NFL, where it is often only the last punch that gets penalized.

PS:  I do have one small suggestion.  When starting a political post/thread (understanding the controversy this subject is causing on our board), try to give it a more neutral (less firebrand) topic heading and introductory discussion.  If you set the initial tone of a thread to intelligence and not emotion, perhaps the follow-on posts will stick more to intelligence and not emotion.

It's hard not get angry at schools shootings and other such topics.  But try anyway.

I am glad we have the political posts.  I didn't always like them, but as long as we can talk about the differences and our opinions openly, then it's a good place to be.  We are a mostly conservative bunch so the liberal side of the board has to work harder to be heard, but they are heard.

So, political post pro.

Sorry but, those streets are guarded by US Marines.   My last breath will be when I report for duty.
