I remember I was following Doyle (and his future bride) when he hit the only bump in Texas and her helmet flew off her head and didnt hit my bike (yeah I got lucky that time)

It was windy going over those bridges maybe 40mph or so and the waves in Galveston was pretty to look at.  That was a great day

Whats the point of wearing a helmet if it flies off by only hitting a bump? Imagine how ineffective it would be in a crash.

It's funny, I went to the GOTF every year from 2001 through the final one in 2017, yet I never did any of the group rides. I'm sure I missed out on a lot, but had an extra large time every year regardless...

It was a much more intimate event back in 2001...
