There iI am at a gas stop near Elizabethton, TN. 5.30pm time to find a room for the night.

I'll try Kayak.

It finds my location and of the motels offered I choose the Red Roof Inn.

I enter my credit card details and get an error message from Priceline telling me that my C.C info is incorrect.

I enter it again. Same message.

3rd times the charm???

Nope, same stupid message.

So F Kayak and F Priceline too.

I eventually find a nice La Quinta near Kingsport, TN

Unload my bike. Change in to room wear and check emails.

WTF there are 3 credit card alerts telling me I've been charged for 3 rooms.

I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY CONFIRMATION FROM PRICELINE even though they had my email address.

A Google search eventually reveals an 800 number for Ripoffline.

The 800 number has 2 options. Neither links to a human.

F IT. It's late I'll try again in the morning.

Call C.C company in the morning and they confirm the 3 separate charges BUT also tell me that the charges have been reversed and should clear my account within 24 to 48 hours.

So both Kayak and Priceline can kiss where the sun don't shine. No future business from me.

Modern tech. Don't make me laugh. More an excuse for zero customer service.

Crap service = closed wallet.

Hotels.com worked perfectly well the following night in Marion, VA.

I use any one of those outfits find the motel and/or the price I'm comfortable with then call That hotel/motel direct. Generally calling the hotel/motel direct gets a betta rate than what any of the websites have posted. And I are NOT above askin fer old fart discount and/or Military discount. Couple times have gotten old fart And Military discount. RIDE SAFE.

I have found that using hotels.com or a similar website to search what is available works well.

Once I pick one I go to that hotels website and find that the hotel's own price is usually within $5-$10 of hotels.com (sometimes it's cheaper).

Usually, booking directly means no prepay and a more liberal cancellation policy.

Once in Asheville, NC I found a hotel online and decided that since it was close by that I would just go there.

The price that I was quoted at the desk was $25 higher than the online price (on their website), when I brought this to the desk clerk's attention he said that he couldn't match the online price (again on their own website).

So, I had to book the room online from my phone while standing in the lobby.  :uglystupid2:

The manager of the hotel that we used in Waynesboro, VA for some of the meet in the middle rides told me that she would always match the hotels.com price if asked.

She said that she netted more for the room because she didn't have to give hotels.com their share.

You would think that more hotels would understand this.

I showed the motel in Marion the hotels.com price which they accepted.

sutterhome

as mentioned the cancellation policy for most is a deal breaker compared to the policy that the hotels provide. No refund from them when the hotel has a much friendlier policy...screw them
