with my activities.
Yesterday, our downtown had a drive in for classic cars and such. I was going to drive the Miata but my knees were hurting so bad I knew that I knew that I couldn't walk around to look at these older restored classics.
A few weeks ago, I had mixed feelings. My sons and I went to the range. I had my Savage model 10 with the new Boyd's stock modified by me.. The good news is that I shot a three shot group of just over a half inch at 100 yards, proving that my work on the stock was good and so are my eyes.
The bad news was that I had my sons post the targets at 100 yards since my knees couldn't take walking down there over uneven ground.
I doubt that I would want my knees replaced at 90 years old. Gotta figure something out since I can't take NSAIDS. Not looking for answers here, jes spoutin' off.

If you are in good health otherwise and your knees are limiting your mobility and your enjoyment of life you owe it to yourself to at least consider it.
Talk with your family Dr and see what he thinks and if he's on board ask around and find out who is the best Dr for the job in your area.
At 90 I don't think that I'd want to do both of them at once though.
My wife has an aunt in her 70's that has needed a knee replacement for at least 10 yrs.
She has refused the surgery and now she needs both knees and a hip replaced.
The things that we do to compensate for one problem leads to others.
It is painful to watch her get around.

Barring replacement is a wheel chair an option fer ya? Ya I know-you didn't wanna throw this open fer discussion! BUT as yer well aware of you are in FACT Amongst Friends here! And solicited or unsolicited advice do show up! Hellz bellz we already KNOW yer a survivor. RIDE SAFE.

My daughter and one of my sons have had both knees replaced. My daughter works in rehab as a receptionist so I have lots of info available to me.
At my age docs will NOT do both knees at once. Time under anesthetic and needing lots of help are the reasons. I live alone. In addition, my right leg has venous insufficiency which complicates things. Put all of this together with arthritis of the hands, thumbs, etc. is a problem. As far as my family doctor goes, he's a good guy but is so overwhelmed with work that he ends up putting out fires and spends little time discussing problems as I age. He is not a geriatric physician and doesn't want to be, too complicated.
I see my VA doctor this month and maybe she can give me some input. It is hell getting old, frustrating.
My one good thing is that my brain still works so that's a blessing.

Here's a cheap set of new legs. Go anywhere a person can walk. Light, breaks down in 4 pcs. and folds. No need for a lawn chair, you always have a place to rest and find some shade. Will run all day on a charge. I use a 4 wheel version for grass areas at large swap meets. I travel 11-13 miles a day at large events. Easy to get out of, and walk a few minutes if you want a closer look. Get back on and go to the far side of the event.

The scooter is a great suggestion. Heck, at age 90 just imagine how many people in cemeteries and hospice are having a much worse day than you are. The fact you still wanted to go to the show makes you an inspiration for 62 yo kids like me. My dad turns 87 next week and is in the same boat as far as want vs ability. So proud of him.

Synvisc or something similar. Chicken comb. Injections in the knees do work for my wife. The side effect is you wake up crowing , the neighbors may complain. da prez

If you haven't already tried them, Cortisone injections to the knees are supposed to be very helpful. There is a newer technique where they pinpoint the injection points with MRI. The results can last six months or more, and I think the procedure can be done several times successfully.

Wayne, there now is a procedure for knee replacement that is much less invasive, it doesn't involve cutting muscles/tendons. The "old" method did so and you ended up with a long scar approx. 10-12" long down the center of the knee. The newer method uses the same prosthesis but is done from the side and doesn't involve cutting muscles, leaving you with approx. a 4" scar. Recovery is less painful and much faster....by weeks. A granny type was in the exercise class at the hosp. when I had my hip replaced in 2016. She had one knee done years before and had the long scar to show for it. At the time of my new "ball joint suspension" the incision for her other leg was covered with a 6" square patch and she was cranking that leg around with little hesitation. I was sitting next to her in class and we chatted a bit, she told me she wished the first knee had been done in the same manner....and she was now 86. Might be worth looking into it, my hip was done in a simialr manner....a 4" cut on the front of the hip, no cut muscles, no crutches or walker used....only a cane for about 10 days. The newer procedures are amazing.

Thanks all. I'm presently using concentrated cherry juice for inflammation. It has helped somewhat and also has helped my hard to sleep nights.
Yes, I've had one cortisone shot in the left knee. Cortisone works but will eventually degrade the knee further and also be less effective.
Hey, it's worth it to still be around when my oldest has turned 62 and two of my kids have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with their spouses.
I'm still employed by the city on the Board of Works and Safety, 24 years all since I retired
Despite my bitchin' I'm truly blessed.
John, it's been four years since I saw an orthopedic surgeon so maybe i'll check into that new procedure. They also have artificial joints now that are custom made from cat scans and measurements. Probably not covered by Medicare tho. There is one surgeon here that specializes in that.
