Politicians are wanting to offer a guaranteed income in Chicago now. I don’t see Trump in this but democratic leaders are trying to lead us down a slippery slope. But yet our intelligent friends like baldo have a problem with Trump meeting with Putin . Not knocking baldo, he is entitled to his opinions about Trump, but Bernie and his new protege in New York are full steam ahead with nothing but socialist programs that can’t be sustained. This is not a bs post but my strongly held opinion that I have no intention of providing endless links to support my position.

It is refreshing to me that so many owners of small buildings, two and three family dwellings, and owners of small businesses of all nationalities and races, that vote, and pay taxes and suffer thru the diblasio disaster, come into my office and voice umbrage at what is going on in this city
The challenge is as the poster says, educating our children
I mean really showing them the value of respect for other opinions, the value of work as opposed to the slavery of being given all, the value of caring for others as opposed to bullying or beating others, the value of respect for our constitution and protection of our country
When we persevere in the relentless teaching of these lessons to our children and grandchildren, socialism, communism and fascism have no chance

That is a good thing and something that those who voted for Trump in the election did not get the chance to do for the most part. This is what all these protests are about to make your opinion null and void if you even so much as think about expressing it. In Chicago since they cannot stop the crime they want to pay them to not do illegal things. Did anyone hear about the fiasco for the Obama library that wont even have any books or Obamas history in it. The Obama Center will not be part of the National Archives System. How could you have an archive if all your records are sealed, but there is nothing to see here move on. I agree, but............. You know me, I am not shy about presenting my thoughts on any subject and was doing so with Keykay for almost all of her middle school, and definitely all of her high school years. I presented fact after fact with real world examples......... Then she went to college and I lost her. The 7 years of teaching, rides to school in the car, dinner table, etc. all meant nothing. It was not enough to overcome the complete envelopment that American University had on her life. By the end of the 4 years, and now 2 years after graduation, she's on board with the likes of Sanders and Ocasio. When I point to all the other nations that tried socialism, she said that it wasn't "correctly" applied in those countries. We even had a discussion on a "guaranteed income". I tried to explain that when everyone starts out with an income at a certain level, that level automatically becomes the new ZERO because it has no value. She couldn't understand how starting out with something could be equal to zero. I asked her to compare minimum wage with what it actually costs to live. To think about the costs of everything you need to survive on your own from day to day without mom and dad and without credit cards. I then asked her what minimum wage amounted to when applied to the cost of living, she said "Nothing". And what does nothing equal..... zero. Not only that, my brainwashed daughter falls in line with it all from climate change to white privilege to social, economic, and climate justice. Heard Lieberman say this morning that Crowley should come back and run as an Independent to win his seat from Ocasio. I hope the liberal beats the socialist and then loses to the republican. One can only hope. BTW, she's been accepted to Columbia for graduate school. I believe all hope is lost.

Columbia alone...........that place has always been head in the clouds and up their butts at the world.
Never give up hope.
When she works for a living, sees her sweat of her labor going against her and observes the real reality she will return because of the base you gave her
Kids are natural prey for socialist teachings as most have been fed their whole lives. I worked thru HS as I had all my kids work also.
Maybe universities should be required to have courses taught by conservatives to balance the other crap out there, if they want to keep their mouth on the federal money tit

A good reason for ALL kids to work a part time/summer job so they can start to understand economics. Parent that give pocket money with no return for the payment are sowing seeds they may not want to harvest.

While this is straight in line with the socialist manifesto, one wonders if San Francisco is worried they need the extra D votes to win elections. That can't be true.

If the tax paying voters of San Francisco are willing to put up with this it shows their disdain for the laws of the country. I also hope they will enjoy the increased use of their tax $$$ being spent on criminals.

I believe all hope is lost. "If You Are Not a Liberal at 25, You Have No Heart. If You Are Not a Conservative at 35 You Have No Brain." --Famous quote mis-attributed to half the known universe, but still highly relevant and true. Don't give up on her, once she starts working for a living, paying taxes, paying a mortgage and other adult things there's a very high chance her eyes will open to reality and she'll come back to the side of truth, righteousness, logic and reason.

She's 24 and does live at home part time. She also lives somewhere else part time, rent/mortgage free as well. Bought and maintains her own car, phone, feeds herself, entertains herself. She worked in high school as a cashier in a supermarket and worked summers as well. She didn't work in college and doesn't have any student loans. She received some scholarship money for grad school and will be borrowing the rest for this year and next so she'll owe about $38K.

"If You Are Not a Liberal at 25, You Have No Heart. If You Are Not a Conservative at 35 You Have No Brain."
Yo, I resemble that remark!!! I got a job as an apprentice locksmith when I quit school after 3 years (would have taken me 6). I was good with hand and small power tools so I figured I could learn a trade or something. Was making $5.25 an hour in 1985. At the end of the first week, my boss handed me a check for $164 after taxes. He felt bad so he gave me back the $46 in cash that I lost in taxes in my paycheck. He did this every week. Very nice guy. But even getting the whole $210 a week wasn't enough to live on my own. I had to have a room mate, had to bag lunch, and had the $1 breakfast special at the deli. I remember thinking that since I was working full time and being responsible and yadda yadda, I should be making enough to at least live on my own and not drive the wreck I was driving back then. I was pro-union because my father was in a union and made a lot of money (learned later on that he made a lot and gave a lot back for the opportunity to make a lot). We were very blue collar and so was everyone we knew. And now,............ I realized that everyone has to start from somewhere. And there is no more, or better, opportunity than this country in which one can do well. This country provides it's children with at least 17 years of education (free for those that meet the requirements) in order to succeed in this world. There are also countless other for-profit schools that teach vocational trades. We all make choices in our lives and the direction of our lives is directly related to the choices we make. We can choose to better our circumstances or not.

I agree with Britman. When we give kids money for nothing, they get to think that it will continue into their adulthood. This is what breed socialism. Make them work for the stuff they want. Up here in Canada, we have way too much of this crap.

You say you aren't a liberal. You sure talk like it because you sure as hell aren't conservative. Trump is not perfect by any means but he is stepping up and doing what he said he would do during the campaign or at least trying but with the demorats and the obstructionist republicans he is having a hard time. We voted for him to do what needs to be done for America. NOT Mexico, NOT Russia NOT, Britain or any other country but the great USA. I watch FOX because every other network can't see anything he does as positive and ALWAYS trash him at every turn. They are still butt hurt over their girl getting beat they will do and say and do ANYTHING to discredit him. If you can't see that you are blind as a freeking bat.

I try to look at what he's done. Kicked out 60 Russians, closed 4 Russian embassies, got Nato to increase their defense spending, authorized sales of military good to Ukraine - all things that were not done in the previous administration. No promises about waiting until the next election so that POTUS could be more flexible, no "reset" button that cleared out all past sins to get things moving forward as was proposed by the previous Secretary of State - just a realistic view that you can't beat everyone else in the world all by yourself and you have to negotiate with less than savory countries in order to survive as a country. No one likes it, but it's reality. The worst part - Trump really isn't doing a lot different or saying anything different than previous administrations or his harshest political critics have said in the past. The difference is that he is Republican (kinda' sorta') and is shaking up the status quo of the royalty known as Congress. Do I like him personally? Nope. Would I work for him? Double nope. Do I like what he is accomplishing? For the most part, yes. Is he more effective than President Obama? Definitely yes. But I'd rather sit and talk with President Obama as his diplomacy is far greater than Trump would ever dream of.

It is your “strongly held opinion” that baldo is an intelligent friend ? (I guess we have differing views on what are bs posts) [/quote] I appreciate the wink but since I have never met baldo except through this forum I have formed an opinion that he is intelligent. Hilliary is intelligent even though I done agree with her, hence my thoughts toward baldo. I consider everyone on this forum as friends, I don’t visit the board to make enemies and I don’t think baldo does either. You or baldo may not have the same outlook on the members here but that’s how I see it until I’m notified that I am not “your friend”. As far as bs goes, my comments were not bs on my part, I know when I’m bs’ing and when I’m not. But we are all fruit inspectors here and that allows you or anyone else examine my opinion and call bs at your leisure and discretion.

Who do I believe? No one. Trust must be earned. It starts with rational thought and a rational demeanor in discussion and debate. Want to enter the discussion with "F#%k Trump. He's a Nazi" or even support such a position, you are not credible and have lost any integrity. Most of the news media fits this description. Particularly CNN. They all read from the same DNC script. It is blatantly obvious. Every week it's a new catch phrase and everyone is using it. As to Fox news, I consider them to have the most rational thought and demeanor of the bunch. They don't use the DNC script for starters and that in itself is refreshing. As to Trump, we know he's not perfect. He didn't enter this from the perspective of a politician but of a businessman. I am more than willing to cut him tremendous amounts of slack in pursuing his agenda which is an agenda I supported before he even ran for this position. That he "fails" by the normal political standards is a plus. Normal political standards got us 20 trillion in debt and sent us down a road of ridiculous social change. Show me a real felonious crime Trump has committed in office and I'll be clamoring for his removal. We are no where, even remotely, near that point. Mrs. Clinton on the other hand is surrounded by them. As to the fake news. The likes of CNN and MSNBC in cahoots with the DNC pretty much done it to themselves. Kind of like crying wolf. Every damn hour of the day. Someday there may be a full scale Constitutional crisis and we won't care because we no longer trust them to report the truth.

I really could care less about trying to change your minds, just curious who the heck do you guy's believe, what news outlet do you trust if any, or is it only Trump, and no one else. Just seems strange that no matter what you see about him, if it isn't great stuff, it's fake news, or is it that you think everything he does is great. John
But I'd rather sit and talk with President Obama as his diplomacy is far greater than Trump would ever dream of.
What good is diplomacy if it doesn't accomplish anything?

And FOX didn't call me a racist every time I disagreed with Obama's policies as did all the other "news" organizations.

Even his own defenders are calling Trump out, this should tell you a little something. And this is not from a bunch of lefties. https://youtu.be/BIIi79blgloJohn You use THAT video to try to illustrate a reasonable political point of view. Keep up the good work.

Please give us 3 or 4 Obama diplomatic events that have made the world safer for American, tax paying, legal citizens.

What good is diplomacy if it doesn't accomplish anything? I sit and talk with people all the time with no goal in mind and nothing accomplished other than a good conversation. I think President Obama would be a more enjoyable person to talk to than President Trump. That's all that I meant.

Please give us 3 or 4 Obama diplomatic events that have made the world safer for American, tax paying, legal citizens. There are none. "Diplomacy" may have been the wrong word. "Conversational skill" was what I was trying to convey. I think President Obama would be more enjoyable to talk to. The preface "I'd rather sit and talk with President Obama" just meant that - I'd rather sit and talk with him than Trump. No hidden meaning. You must read the whole sentence.
